Yes, that is the actual card. I did a repaste with KPx last night. Took a grand total of... 10 minutes. :)

The graphite pads they were talking about are actually the thermal pads for the NVMe heatspreaders.

Here's a snapshot of the repaste. The stock paste is not bad by any means and they've moved away from using toothpaste. Aftermarket pastes like KPx, MasterGel Maker, and Phobya NanoGrease are better, though.

I ran a CB20 loop for 8 hours to get some temperature data after the paste has settled a bit. Temps have largely remained the same after settling at the PL1 power limit of 75W. They definitely aren't as good as the first 30 minutes after repaste, but that's standard for all laptops as all pastes suffer from the pump-out effect, to varying amounts.

I tried using XTU to override the power limits, and while I was able to change them, the EC simply ignored this and limited the CPU to the standard PL1 and PL2 of 75W and 135W. I was also unable to change the duration of boost or anything else like that, like previous mobile Precisions with locked CPUs. Undervolting is not available whatsoever.

    Many thanks!
This is quite disappointing of HP :(

I'm more familiar with Dell, so it was an unpleasant surprise when I found out about the HP non-upgradibility.

    An update!

My machine has developed some very loud electronic noise. It's a mix of coil whine and buzzing near where the CPU is. I can live with it, but this did pop up within 24 hours of stress testing the machine.

Also noticed a slight color gradient on the display, from left to right. The screen is more yellow on the left, and then takes on a progressively pinker hue when sweeping to the right. I did verify this on a solid white background but the issue is so minor that it doesn't matter. I had two other panels of the same exact model (AUO41EB) on the 7540 that had much more of an issue than this.

I am waiting for the HDR600 800 nit option to come out, though. Would love to try a panel swap in the future.

I can't believe they're still using the 0.4mm pin pitch displays. Though the 10-bit bit depth is nice.

I would imagine the 800 nit one will use the same pin pitch and the same display connector.

I have 10 bit enabled in Nvidia control panel since I run exclusively on discrete graphics. I find that after restarting the machine or putting it to sleep, it will revert to 8 bit and certain functions like the toggle for Night Light in Windows 10 will stop working until I set it back to 10 bit.

Have you encountered this issue? Is there a way to force 10 bit all of the time?

Not too sure about that. The 10-bit display I tried refused to work properly, and is now collecting dust in a drawer somewhere.

May I ask if the crucial 3200 rams you use are 2x32GB. In the manual, it claims to support 4x32GB 2933, but for 3200 it only supports 1x16GB or 4x8GB. Those might be errors, which happened before. It will be good to know if 2x32GB 3200 works.

I bought mine off Amazon. They are rated for 3200MHz, as well as the OEM RAM. Do note that they will only run at 2933MHz due to this being the max official supported speed of the chipset.

The 3200MHz requires special RAM (I believe from ADATA) that will trigger XMP in the BIOS. It's likely that only a specific model will trigger it since there are reports of people using Kingston HyperX and not being able to activate the XMP profile. There is no user selectable option to control frequency or XMP in the BIOS.

I have not tested with XMP RAM, but if anyone has and got 3200 working reliably, please do reply with the model numbers.

Thought this is worth mentioning: the new keyboards on the 7550 and 7750 are incredible. Crisp with tactile feedback, yet also very quiet. The stroke is snappy yet very well dampened at the bottom of the stroke (so there isn't much clacking, if any at all).

I have not had a chance to try out the XPS 9500/9700 keyboards but it appears that they are the same.

Dell did a great job with this redesign. If only the speakers were better...
