Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

I installed 1.3.7 on my 7730 earlier and everything seems to have worked OK. I do not have the dock (thankfully) so no idea if it has helped with anything in that regard. Good luck!

 

Why do you think it is a laptop hw issue ?

 

Still rather sure that it could be solved with a BIOS update. Check out this thread with other users complaining about the same thing with other laptop models, that only appeared after a BIOS update (and it went away after reverting to an earlier BIOS).

Anyway. I will be trying 1.3.7 shortly and I'll post back how it goes.

 

Just installed 1.3.7 as recommended in my case from Dell. No hickups in the last 30 minutes...

 

Updated to 1.3.7 now fails to start with G.SKILL memory (previously working). Great job Dell.

I will say, after the green "BIOS update completed, rebooting your system" text appeared, there was a good two minutes while it appeared to power on and off, show the Dell logo on screen and take it away, etc. before Windows finally started to boot. Much longer than with a regular reboot. Not a big deal but always a but always makes you a little nervous when your system acts strange right after a BIOS update. I don't remember prior systems hanging for this long after an update.

Up and running on 1.3.7, we'll see how to the dock is working now...

That didn't take long. I'm still experiencing dock USB I/O stuttering on 1.3.7.
Not tremendously surprised. The update notes say nothing about the dock or Thunderbolt.

 

Aaron44126, I was just curious about Windows 10 Pro Workstation since it sounds like a much cleaner and more efficient operating system than Windows 10 Home and Pro both are. I have Pro on my systems at home, and I've had to go and shutoff and/or remove a whole lot of worthless junk, such as Cortana, Photos, Microsoft added games, etc.. Whatever is eating up memory, and I have no need for, I go in and either shut them down, and/or remove them if I can, though they tend to pop up again every time Windows 10 is upgraded.

Last night researching I found a way to turn one of the standard features in Windows 10 Pro Workstation on in Pro. It's called Ultimate Performance Mode in your Power Options. From what I've read, even when you have your setting set at Performance Mode in your Power Options, the CPU is still not really running at its peak possible performance. Whether the Ultimate Performance Mode helps any, we'll see. Probably very little, if any, but it was added to Workstation for a reason.

As for my system at work, sadly I can't go into my system there and tweak things.

As for the memory, I want the fastest, so I was just curious about ECC vs. Non-ECC. I don't know what my present 7510 has.

So now it is working again. After successful bios update to 1.3.7 screen keeps black. Status LED says memory error (2 x amber, 2 x white). Reinstalled default memory and it boots as normal. Reinstalled GSKILL again. It boots as normal. Performed bios RAM diagnostic test with no error. Restarted and ended with black screen with memory error again. Removed one module (16GB) and it boots as normal with remaining 16GB. Reinstalled second module again. Performed multiple restarts with no error. Really strange. Now Task Manager says "Memory Speed 3200Mhz". I am sure it shows 2600Mhz with previous bios version.

 

Removing one memory module generally clears the CMOS, so maybe that's why. And now everything is fixed, including the speed display in Task Manager.
