Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

Sporadic "USB device not recognized errors".

Now running with "ASMedia USB Extended Host Controller Driver" A07 from TB16...

 

Well fellas, I've just received and tested my replacement unit for the 7530. Comparing the systems side-by-side and I'm happy to report on 2 improvements, but have some bad news as well. The first pro (opinion) to the new unit is that it appears the battery reinforcement bar is now a whole piece of metal, not sure what type but in the original unit the reinforcement was plastic. The second pro is that the two 16gb RAM sticks came installed on the opposite side of the motherboard this time, making it much easier to pop in another two sticks later on.

Now the bad news. While no noticeable dead pixels are present, the screen is damaged and has a vertical line clearly visible on the left side. Two systems in a row, I'm both disappointed and furious with Dell's "quality control". I didn't even bother checking the color gamut coverage, back light bleed, or the battery health on it. Calling support after my meeting today..

 

Got a replacement dock yesterday, and the USB ports still don't work well. Immediately had choppy mouse and repeating keys on the keyboard, and USB audio caused choppy playback and even screen flickers.

What is interesting, though, is I have a cheap HooToo Thunderbolt 3 dongle that has 3 USB outs, and if I plug that into the Thunderbolt 3 port on the back of the TB18dc, the mouse and keyboard actually work pretty well. USB audio, however, is still hosed no matter how I wire it up, with the exception of direct to the 7730, which is what I'm doing. But I am down to two connections to the laptop instead of 7, which is definitely progress.

Sent all this back to Support, hoping this is just a fix to the USB driver code on the dock.

 

Does windows install an additional driver for the dongle ?

you can go to windows store, search dell, there will be something called Dell premier color, install it. Then select sRGB or any gamut you want. If you have a i1 display pro it will be even nicer, the software can use this to do a calibration for the screen.

 

I think he mean that the battery is covered with some metal so it is not just plastic. It is reinforced by those metal bars.

 

Can someone consolidate the performance between the Quadro P4200 and P5200 GFX cards? I keep going back and forth between the two cards, not sure which to get. How do the cards compare to GTX counterparts? Considering this laptop vs gaming laptops. Looking to do video editing / VFX first, gaming secondary. Thanks!

 

Yes. there is a thin metal bar running across the top of the battery where the hold down screws are. Originally it was just black plastic.
