Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

Sort of up to you to decide ... that doesn't seem like a terrible price.
(20-40% performance boost, depending on the workload, is my understanding of what to expect.)

 

Really just gaming. The only reason I have this laptop is I got a killer deal on it.

Note, you can fit RTX 4000 and RTX 5000 into this system... You have to be sure to get the 7540 version and not the 7740 version, and a heatsink replacement is required as well.

 

I've got the 7730, I shouldn't have any problems with this I don't think with the original heatsink.

That's a great deal, at least compared with the ~$1000 that it used to go for.

The RTX 3000 offers a 30% performance uplift vis-a-vis the P3200 (may be higher because the TGP for the RTX 3000 is higher on the 7740; I am not sure), as the linked thread explains.

 

Has the use of 3200MHz ram been restored after bios 1.8.2 ?

I have read up to the point that @DerMarkus has tested 1.8.2 and 1.7.0 with his 3200 set.

 

I was wondering if there was a possibility of reverse-engineering the MaxxAudio capability for Linux, especially the volume and clarity boost.

 

Hello everyone, new guy here. I registered just to find out if anyone has had the same experience with their Precision 7530 battery life recently. I have an i7 8850 with a quadro P2000 and 97wh battery, and the battery life has always been abysmal, which has lead to battery replacements to no avail. I'd given up hope until, for an unknown reason, the battery life suddenly went from the usual 2 hours up to 8 hours. This was in December and it was pretty consistently lasting much longer than normal while running the same programs as before, one of them being Solidworks, which uses the gpu and consequently, the battery. The problem is, that it has now reverted back to the 2 hour max life on battery, no matter what I'm doing and I've no idea what caused the change (good or bad).
I've have a screenshot of the evidence showing the runtime left when it was running 'well' that shows 7hr 21 left at 85% battery. I suspect that it's a quadro update that fixed then unfixed it but I've no way of knowing really. I use geforce experience to keep things up to date (I have an nvidia shield tv), which updates the quadro drivers quicker than the dell command program does.
Has anyone had the same experience and/or been able to replicate the fix? It was great while it lasted!

 

I would try to find which version of drivers were valid in December. Maybe there is a log of GF Expererience that had these changes and you could match it with the efficient performance of your battery/quadro.

 

I experienced this for a very long time, and have hunted high and low for the cause. I made a pretty long post about it back in 2019, with a fairly unexpected fix:

This issue was resolved as of Windows 10 19H2: for some reason, it left Paint 3D open instead, so I didn't have to resort to the weird hack above. This benefit subsequently disappeared in Windows 20H1/2 (I can't recall which).

When it comes to battery longevity, I keep my notebook almost always plugged in now.so I have resorted to limiting the battery charge and discharge to the range 50-80% (use Dell Power Manager to do this). Therefore, even if it's plugged in and at 65%, the battery doesn't charge/discharge, which is great for battery longevity.
