Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

That was my first thought but I first googled Dell burn-in and found this, which states that:

So I was hesitant to call without further information. The flickering doesn't seem to have anything to do with a burn-in issue so I might just lead with that with a link to the video.

 

Do you have ProSupport Plus or damage protection? If so they should fix just about anything, even if it is "your fault".

Same specs and almost same price.

So, ProSupport, not sure if it is "Plus".

 

Accidental damage is only covered with ProSupport Plus or the separate accidental damage protection, which both are extras that you have to add on at purchase time.
Still, I think you should call and see if they will come and swap out the screen. If you simply describe the symptom that you are seeing then I don't think that they will give you any trouble.

I recommend 7740 of P73 so you can take advantage of 8 core and RTX graphics. But I only have a 7530 so I can't recommend any of the two to you.

 

All benchmarks say P5200 much better than RTX 5000 for siemens nx, catia and Solidworks. All these applications use single core during design. I make simulation very seldom so more core is not important. I wonder 4k 17.3 screen in fact. Hd or uhd I'm in conflict.

 

AU Optronics B173ZAN01.0 is the 17.3" UHD panel you will find on both 7730 and P72.

So the point is:
Have you ever used solidworks,catia,siemens nx on a notebook with a 4k 17.3" panel before ?
If so, have you ever experienced any scaling issues like blurred interfaces or tiny buttons ?

Dell 7530/7730 FHD displays unfortunately are 6-bit only, so like many users complained on this topic you may easily encounter 'banding' issues expecially on monochromatic pictures.

The same exact panel was also on dell 7730 but it was a 6-bit version !

So it looks like dell is offering updated panels on 7740.

In SPECgpc V12.1 benchmark test you can see the following results:

7730 with P5200-------->164.16 so 7.74% more than p5200

Snx-02
7740 with RTX 5000--->212.19
7730 with P5200-------->189.45 so 12% more than p5200

Catia-04
7740 with RTX 5000--->195.01
7730 with P5200-------->167.94 so 16.12% more than p5200

So not actually 'dramatic' improvements but i don't really see how rtx5000 should perform less than p5200.
Important thing to consider: nvidia has improved the fabrication process going from pascal P5200 (16nm) to turing RTX5000 (12nm).
This translates to better performances with less power consumption leading to lower gpu temps on RTX5000.

May i ask you what type of assemblies are you used to work with your softwares ?
How many parts ? What type of 'real view' do you use in terms of image details ?

Have you ever gone above 8 gb of vram while modelling/rendering ?
If not, p4200 or rtx 4000 might be a better choice in terms of performance/cost ratio.

Unless your simulations are very long and intensive and your workflows strongly rely on them even the few times you run them, i suggest you to go for 'normal cpu' like 8850H (has partial unlocked multiplier, up to +400mhz on each core) or 8950HK (multiplier fully unlocked) if you get a nice discount on it + 2x32gb or 4x16gb ddr4 ram @2666mhz.
xeon requires ecc ram+win 10 pro for workstations: this 'chain' is very expensive.

In conclusion: if i were you i would buy 7740 with the following specs:

FHD display with the aluminum lid (to avoid any kind of scaling problem and save some money)
i7-9850H (you value st performances more than number of cores, so take this also because it has partial unlocked multiplier (like 8850H) so you may reach higher frequencies if you have thermal/power headroom).
RTX 4000 (go for RTX 5000 only if you need more than 8gb of vram; they're both capped at same tdp of around 110W so $1000 more for a slight increase in performances are not worth)
8gb ram
256 gb ssd nvme
Intel AX200
Ubuntu Linux 18.04 (search for a cheap win10pro license on ebay)

Take minimum ram and storage (dell prices are quite steep) and add your own.
hyperx@2666mhz cl15 + samsung evo plus m.2 nvme and you're good to go.
