Just as a thought, what about using an external gfx card with the Thunderbolt interface? These things don't last very long on a charge without using the discrete GPU, but they make excellent desktop replacements. If you need to use the GPU on the road, of course, this is a non-starter.

    Amen to that.

There is a more 'official' way, and that is to get the relevant part numbers for the dGPU and associated accessories, and directly ask Dell for those parts, and pay accordingly. For instance, I was sent the 4K UHD display cable, even though it wasn't in the part list for my specific configuration of the 7530.

For instance, for the 7530 P3200:

@supermoth would need to get not just the board, but the power cable, the data cables, the screws, plus the heatsink too:

That's a grand total of five part numbers that @supermoth will have to ask Dell for quotes for.

I would be interested if someone tried this and let us know how it goes. I often refer people to contact Dell Spare Parts for odd parts (cable, heatsink, etc.). I've never heard of someone outright buying a GPU card in this manner. I imagine that the cost that they would quote would make it not worth the effort (if they would even sell it to you at all), but who knows ...?

Hello everyone. I have to ask for help because as I wrote previously I have bought my dell 7730 with 8GB ram with intend to change on 2x16 after delivery. The problem is with constant frozen screens after install second ram module. Now I have hyperx impact 2x16GB 3200 cl20 and when I put only one module machine works without any problems. When I put another one module I get constant crash in random time (most frequent during the windows log in). Crash is always looks the same - frozen screen and I have to restart it from power button. A month ago I tried with g-skill 3200 and I got the same issue. With only one module (doesnt matter which) laptop always works fine. Rams are OK and work flawlessly in friend's laptops. Do You have any idea what I have to set in bios or what to do? Or laptop is faulty?

Hello to everyone! Even that i've read whole 200 pages (or most of it - i might have missed something) I still have some questions.
I've recently bought a new Precision 7530 specced with Quadro P3200 (with 7730 BIOS), i9, 64GB Ram (2x32) and a NVMe Toshiba SSD. I also have a FHD 72%Gamut display which is mostly fine (mine is LGD0540), but i've encountered a problem with color banding. Now, i know it's a 6bit display, but when I turn off the integrated Intel card in BIOS everything on screen looks sharper and the color banding disappears. I wouldnt mind shorter battery life with Intel UHD turned off permanently in BIOS, but then i can't change the brightness of screen no matter what I do (even Windows brightness in display settings doesn't work). Is there a solution for no color banding on Intel drivers or changing brightness with only Nvidia drivers and Quadro enabled? I work with Photoshop a lot, so even the idea that Intel drivers "enhance" colors in one way or another makes me want to get rid of them. I tried using only Windows default driver without the Intel UHD app, but the problem still exist.

I've seen a couple of other users complain about this but haven't been able to reproduce it myself; on my system with Quadro P1000, and graphics switching turned off, brightness control works with no trouble.

Which NVIDIA drivers are you using? I've always been using the latest ones straight from NVIDIA.com (not drivers sourced from Dell or Microsoft).

I that one user reported that the issue occurred right after startup, but brightness control worked allowing the display to idle sleep and then waking it up again.

I DDUed the old Dell branded ones and installed drivers from Nvidia site - nothing changed. I've removed all of the Dell bloatware like Dell Optimizer and Premier Color - still no luck, but the sleep workaround surprisingly brings the brightness control back, so there might be a permanent fix (at first i thought that its not possible to change brightness on nvidia drivers at all). Thank you very much for this - i'll be using this workaround while I look for a proper solution.

    Ok. Maybe you can use
    Code:
    nircmd.exe monitor off
at startup to sleep the display once and then it will be good for the rest of your session.
