I answered my own question. Disabling "Switchable Graphics" in the BIOS let me run the firmware update repeatedly until everything updated.

Hoping that these updates help with the dock issues I've been having.

As usual, the BIOS update does not address the ridiculously high power consumption on battery, and especially on Optimus mode. Due to the high battery drain, I run through an easy 2 charge cycles per day, and hence the battery wear of my notebook has skyrocketed to 12%.

I suppose a lot more people use their Precisions docked than out and about... :( But great job; shows how a concerted effort by customers can get companies to fix their products (though, as @Aaron44126 said, 9 months too late).

Come on, Dell; 18 W of power draw on Optimus is outrageous. Your XPS with a 4K screen can manage 7. What the heck is going on?

I'm not off to a good start with the new firmware. I left my 7730 running overnight. This morning the two external monitors connected through DP through the dock were not being detected. Rebooting didn't help. I had to power cycle the dock before things were back to normal.

    Sigh.

Hi , very first post. I bought second hand, a few months old 7530 a few days ago configured with i7-8850H, P2000, 512GB NVMe drive, 45% display, and 2x8GB.
Hope you might help me with some issues:
    - In all my computers I use ThrottleStop, but it looks it doesn't do anything here. It runs fine, reports correct data, but settings for each of 4 modes are ignored.
    Is anyody uses this app?
    - I have 45% gamut screen, colours are washed out comparing to previous laptop ( 5 years old Clevo). Is it worth to change screen to 72% one?

    Thanks

Soundcard is Creative SB X7. The particular device is connected to the dock, but it doesn't like when another USB device is plugged in. Fortunately it has a on/off switch (and is turned off most of the time). I just need to make sure the card is switched off before plugging other USB stuff, or I'll loose the dock connection.
Maybe it's just me, but dock's connection stability seems to have improved over time. Maybe recent BIOS updates helped.

    Current Linux is Kubuntu 18.04.1.

Powerdraw has improved and now gives around 6h on light load.

    Hi there.
I am thinking about to get a brand new 7730 from a friend that never used it at a good price.
The system does not come with a discrete Gpu card.Is it doable to get a P3200/P4200 in order to install it.?.Is it a straight forward deal?
    What are the Dell P/N?
    Thanks in advance.

Remember that the 7730 uses proprietary "DGFF" cards for the dGPU and not MXM cards like prior generations. I haven't seen a good source for these cards yet. On eBay, I have only seen a single P2000 card (which wouldn't fit in the 7730 anyway... the 15" and 17" systems use different size cards).

In addition to the GPU card you'll have to source a new heatsink/fan assembly. A "lesser version" which doesn't include heat pipes for the dGPU is used if you order a system with the Intel GPU only.
