    I can say that when my company buys laptops from Dell, the service tag is shown on the box... I think this is to help with the inventory process so you don't have to unbox the systems to get them entered.

    The warranty starts ticking at delivery date. I'm not sure how it would work with systems that are resold.

    Yes, I perfectly understand that as customized dell notebook are completely managed by dell itself, they also activate the warranty period the day of shipping
    so that the client receives the notebook already "under warranty" rather than losing time to activate it by him/herself (not to speak about any kind of problem a client can encounter in doing this)

    But yes, that's my "biggest fear".
    "224TT" is NOT a customized notebook from dell website, but a pre-assembled new notebook sold by online stores who also have other laptops from other brands.

    So warranty may work differently.

    These stores often do not even have a warehouse.
    They just receive orders from clients (and their payments of course) and then send them (both orders and money received from clients) to their distributors who only then provide shipping.

    So goods are managed by these distributors and online stores are just intermediaries.

    The legal warranty in europe is 2 years from the seller and it may start the day of purchase or when the seller received the money or when the notebook was shipped or when you actually received from the courier. It depends on the online store terms.

    So whatever thing you buy, you have to directly inquire the store where you purchased and if necessary send them back.

    But "224TT" comes with a further warranty called "3y NBD ProSupport" and so in case of necessity i can directly ask dell rather wasting time sending at my cost the notebook back to the seller and wait even lots of weeks without it.

    IMHO i don't think Dell sends these pre-assembled units with this warranty already activated to distributors because a client can even order one unit after one year, so when he/she receives the laptop may think of getting a "3y NBD ProSupport" with it
    (as clearly reported on the order recap) but then discover on this page

    that they may have been scammed with a used unit as one year of prosupport has already passed !

    By the way, on this page:

    there is a "retail registration" but it reports:
    "... to validate your limited hardware warranty and get more personalized support".

    So i don't know if "3y NBD ProSupport" (which "224TT" comes with) can be considered a "limited hardware waranty".

    If you have graphics switching turned on, the display is driven by the Intel integrated GPU and not the discrete graphics card.
    Try toggling graphics switching on/off and see if there is any change in behavior.

    I say that it's more likely the display or the display connection (cable/seating). In any case I'd just ask Dell to fix it under the NBD warranty and see how that goes first.

    It was still flickering after a couple of reboots, and then I shut it off. After some time I rebooted to update the BIOS, and now the flickering is gone (even before the bios update). Updated the bios to 1.6. Ran stress tests using the Dell Assistant, everything passed. :vbconfused:

    As always, wait and see. I experienced the same issues which went away after replacing the display and the display cable both (two birds in one stone). I plan to upgrade the display to a 120/144 Hz 8-bit display again, so that's there on the line, too.

    Aaron, my biggest thanks for your great instructions. Followed them and everything so far is working to a “T.” I want to run the computer on the cloned drive for awhile (make sure it works like I want) before reformatting the 1TB SSDs as two separate drives. Speaking of which…what is the best way to do that? What I don’t want to have happen is to install the old drives and have the computer accidentally boot off those. Is that not possible because those were formatted under RAID and I’ve now changed to AHCI?

    Or, should I get a USB to M.2 dongle and format the drives that way? Or install each drive separately (presumably preventing the system from booting since both drives were installed as one under RAID)?

    I appreciate your patience as I feel like I’m asking stupid questions but I’ve just never done this before…

    Another issue (noticeable most when the screen is black, but not off, in a lights off room). If I pinch the bezel around the display, there is significant light distortion on the screen. There is almost no distortion in my M6800.

    Anyone else have the same issue?

    Not an issue, but rather a typical side-effect of the display being IPS—it doesn't react well to side pressure, and this phenomenon is called 'light bleed'. There was a lot of discussion early on in this thread about light bleed, and it was concluded that a straightforward mitigation was to simply remove and reattach the bezel, leading to reduced pressure. As Acer discusses here:

    Apparently it's a driver issue in linux. It comes only when the display gets turned off when idle, and then activated later. And only on NVIDIA card. No issue when on integrated graphics. Surprisingly when flickering gets triggered, it persists for some time, even across reboots, and even in Windows.
    Anyway, the lowest brightness setting turns the LCD off (not just black, but off), and this doesn't trigger flickering and lines. So I've just turned off the option for LCD off on idle. Another option is to stay on Intel graphics - it should be enough to play videos at 4k I think.
