I'm not seeing that with the 7730 4k I received in November. With a black image (e.g. I just used VLC in full-screen mode to display a black image) I see no bleed.

I'm very particular about screens because I'm a full-time photographer (though I use external monitors when I'm not travelling.) I sure wouldn't be happy if I was seeing that you're seeing.

Thank you for the reply! Do you happen to know what panel you have? (You can check with HWINFO). I think all the display panel's I've received are made by Sharp. I'm curious if there are different 4k panels available for this system.

Hi All, first post but have been following this thread for sometime.

I currently own a surface pro 3 and it is almost 5 years old! for the last 5 years it has sat in the docking station and provided good service but the processor speed is slow but I understand the reasons why. It does have the i7 processor from 5 years ago.

I have been reviewing the Dell 7530 and have some questions.

    1. On the Dell UK website if you select the Intel Core i9-8950HK (Six Core 2.90GHz, 4.80GHz Turbo, 12MB 45W) it asks you to pay extra for windows 10 pro! I asked the guy at Dell and he advises me that you need a different version of windows for this processor but I struggled as you have Windows 10S, Windows 10 Home, WIndows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Workstation etc.. I have not heard of different versions within Windows 10 Pro? Any idea why we have to pay additional £31?

    2. I assume that the 7530 does not come with a finger print reader as standard and if I wanted one then it would be option "Palm Rest, with Next touch finger print reader and smart card" I see others listed but don't know if that is integrated into the laptop or a separate device?

    3. I notice many people talk about downloading windows 10 from MS and doing a clean install from a USB device, which is fine. However, could I do this and simply download the Dell Command Update and it would recognise the system and install all the drivers etc... ?

    Thanks in advance
    Regards
    Shaun

    1. That's odd, my understanding was that the only Windows "gotcha" is that you have to pay extra for Windows 10 "Pro for Workstations" if you get a Xeon CPU. Anyway, in the end, it comes down to Dell's OEM agreement with Microsoft, there are not any technical limitations, so I don't think that you will be able to talk them around it. Regular Windows 10 Pro (or Home even) works fine on the i9 or Xeon CPUs. This machine doesn't have the fancy hardware needed to utilize the extra features that Windows 10 Pro for Workstations brings to the table. You do have the option to purchase the machine with Linux and then install Windows yourself, but I think that they will block the fingerprint reader in that case.

    2. The fingerprint reader is integrated into the laptop on the palmrest.

    3. You can do your own Windows 10 install and then download the stuff that you need from Dell. I haven't used Dell Command Update. Almost all of the drivers will actually come in through Windows Update (you have to install Wi-Fi or Ethernet drivers first naturally). Install the Intel Serial I/O driver to get the touchpad working, ControlVault for the fingerprint reader, the latest Thunderbolt drivers and firmware and the latest system BIOS and you are good to go.

My only complaint with my 7530 is the Palmrest fingerprint reader. It periodically struggles to recognize my fingerprints no matter what I do. I wonder what others have experienced, but in hindsight I would've elected the more expensive FIPS fingerprint reader.

I have the latter. Rest assured my experience is no different to yours. Sometimes after an extended wake-sleep period, the fingerprint sensor disappears from Windows altogether, and I need to use my PIN or password to log in.

Hmm. It looks like there are different panels.

HWiNFO shows that my machine has an AU Optronics B173AN01.0 [DELL P/N: 8CJK2].
