Hmm, well, I guess I will. Everything seems to be running well at the moment.

No, my 7530 has Optimus off and the Intel GPU is not used.

I finally received my computer (7530) last week. It conforms to my expectations, but the screen is of a very poor quality.

The brightness is low and not uniform. By sitting precisely in front of the screen, the brightness is lower in the lower side of the screen. I feel like I have a privacy filter on the screen when there is none (not as much, but that's what it looks like)! The angles of vision seem very low and no color is homogeneous (especially light colors).

It's like I'm working on an old TFT screen of 10 years ago. What a disappointment to have chosen the high end option (UltraSharp UHD IGZO, 3840x2160, full description in the screenshot) and to have this rotten screen! :tears:

The icing on the cake: there are several dead pixels at the top of the screen and some (small as 4k) in the middle. Fortunately, they are only visible on dark screens (especially black).

In your opinion, can I request a screen replacement? :vbconfused: What should I do?

You can request another screen but you'll probably get another Sharp, that's the only one I've seen for the 4K screen from people reporting model information. (The 2015 manufacture date is also normal, they must have a pile of these sitting around somewhere...) Still, if you have stuck/dead pixels you absolutely can request a replacement, I've done this with my past two personal Dell laptops which both had screens issues upon arrival.

Unfortunately, the limited viewing angle seems to be normal with the 4K screen, mine has that too... It bothered me at first but the more I used the laptop, the less it bothered me. Otherwise the color seems pretty good to me. (Note: I'm not a graphics person, I do code...)

The other option is to find an aftermarket 15.6" eDP display (different model with better qualities) and swap them out.

Are owners of 7730 UHD having similar issues with the screen?

My 7530 4K IGZO does not have any of the issues you mentioned except for the brightness change when viewing from an angle. We discussed this on this thread and I believe it's probably due to the matte finish on the panel. My HP ZBook G4 with Dreamcolor 4K (Sharp 1445) panel had the same issue and it also had a matte finish. Maybe it's a feature of all Sharp 4K panels.

As for brightness my Dell panel is really spot on and more than bright enough. It definitely is 350 nits because it's much brighter than my ZBook G4 4K Dreamcolor panel which was 270 nits. I have the Dell 7530 panel at 60% brightness at home and 70% in typical office lighting, whereas with the HP needed 90% at home and it was never bright enough anywhere else.

It could be your individual panel is a lemon and if you notice differences in brightness across the panel when viewing straight on and when the screen is not black then definitely get a new one. I guarantee you though that all 4K IGZO panels have this viewing angle brightness lowering feature.

Also, if you consider yourself to be very discerning or picky about things then I think you will always be disappointed with Dell, HP, Lenovo comparable offerings. I find with the big manufacturers it's always a compromise, if you want one great feature then others are worse. For example, the new HP ZBook G5s have very bright 650 nits 4K Dreamcolor panels but other features on their laptop are really worse than the Dell 7530.

Remember you have a 30-day money back guarantee with Dell. Maybe get an entire laptop replacement with them and if you don't like that one return it, get your money back, and think about buying another model.

Thank you all for your answers.

I'll ask the replacement of the screen with motives for the defective pixels. It will be easier to explain to the support! Maybe these defects will be less visible with a new one...

As Kittenlips said, it's really hard to find the perfect workstation without having to compromise. This is a shame, especially for computers at this price and for professional users.

Fortunately, I work mainly on external screens. So even if this problem of homogeneity of the backlight persists, it will be only on the move.

I don't think to ask for a money-back guarantee of the computer. I'm still very happy with it, although I would have preferred a screen of better quality.

Would anybody, if I paid, be willing to repaste my CPU for me if they live in the area? I'm a quadriplegic and I wouldn't be able to do it myself. Or, if anyone would be so kind as to point me in the direction of a service in the Norfolk, VA area?
    Thanks!
