I notice plenty of discussion of replacing thermal pads and thermal paste; I'm going to attempt my own surgery in about two weeks when I get my thermal paste (MasterGel Maker Nano) and 0.5mm Fujipoly thermal pads (I hope the thickness is sufficient).

Quick question: anyone with a 7530/7730, do you notice that the display is stuck at maximum brightness upon booting to Windows with the Intel iGPU disabled? The issue only goes away if the display goes to sleep and is reawakened, or the refresh rate of the display is reset using the driver control panel. This issue does not occur with Switchable graphics enabled in the BIOS.

Any idea, anyone? I have resigned myself to using the nVidia GPU only, as I get superior colour control and performance with it, with little impact to the battery life (as already mentioned).

 

Could you please share a pic of one of your 32GB RAM modules with clearly visible label containing model number and manufacturer? Just posting model number and manufacturer would also work. Thanks!

 

7530 with graphics switching disabled. Brightness control works fine for me. Don't know if it matters, but I'm using NVIDIA drivers directly from NVIDIA and not from Dell.

 

I can't speak to these systems in particular but I know in the past with my 7710 I would have to reinstall the AMD (nvidia in your case) gpu drivers after toggling the switchable graphics off in the BIOS. Something about how it installs on a system with switchable graphics vs without or something I guess.

 

I've written about this previously. I more or less work around this by forcing the system to toggle between 48hz/60hz using Task Scheduler and 12noon Display Changer on logon.

Not ideal, but I'm not sure what else to do. I've tried reinstalling the GPU drivers (intel + nvidia) from all the sources to no effect.

 

Hi, I'm sorry beforehand if this has been posted somewhere but I'm not able to find the answers in any of the dell service manuals, websites or forums.

The Dell Precision 7730 has 4 NVME SSD locations, I'm trying to figure out which slot in device manager/disk management/windows maps to what physical location.
I see the following Drives.

Bus 0 - Location 16 - Disk 0
Bus 1 - ACPI (NVM1) - Disk 1
Bus 2 - ACPI (NVM2) - Disk 2
Bus 3 - ACPI (NVM3) - Disk 3

I have no idea why Bus 0 has no ACPI NVM# and instead lists as "Location 16".

The slots in the dell service manual are described as..

NVME Slot 4 - Near Battery
NVME Slot 3, 5 or 6 - Under Base Cover

Lets say i'm looking at laptop upside down I see

1 - Bottom Left - (NVME Slot 4 as per manual) - What (Bus #, Disk #)?...
2 - Left Side Lower Drive - (NVME Slot ??? as per manual) - What (Bus #, Disk #)?...
3 - Left Side Upper Drive - (NVME Slot ??? as per manual) - What (Bus #, Disk #)?...
4 - Drive Near System Memory - (NVME Slot ??? as per manual) - What (Bus #, Disk #)?...

Basically i'm trying to identify what system bus #'s correspond to the drives in dell system manual pages 45 and 46.

Its gonna be annoying if I have to pull out each drive one by one to figure this out. :-(
Also in case anyone is interested; One of the reasons I want to know is that on identical NVME SSD's..The physical drive described as (Disk 0, "Location 16", Bus 0, LUN 0) has benchmarked read/write sequential IOPS the same as other drives in the system but Random (IOPS) 2x -3x more (!!!!). Also I swapped the drives around and the same numbers persisted.... Why would one of the interfaces enable the drive to have so much more IOPS? I reinstalled windows unto this drive and in all benchmarks I ran for random access it was a significant improvement. (Not sure if its my head but I think I can feel a difference as well)

Are you still installing/trying to install the intel drivers when that GPU is disabled? I wonder if that's the issue.
