It was mentioned earlier in this threat, but if anyone has a calibration profile for the AUO 4k screen, I'd be very grateful if they'd post it. I know that's not the "right" way to calibrate a screen but it would get me somewhat close at least

    Hi !

I'm really leaning towards "dell precision 7530" to replace my current old laptop to run softwares like autocad,solidworks,matlab,cfd-fem applications during my college course (mech. eng.).

A local online store (i live in Italy) offers me this configuration at a very good price (code number is "Dell Precision 7530-224TT"):

Intel Core i9-8950HK (12M Cache, up to 4.80 GHz)
    16GB (2x8GB) 2666Mhz DDR4
    Nvidia Quadro P3200 6GB
    512GB SSD PCIe M.2
15.6" FHD IPS (1920x1080) UltraSharp Wide View AntiGlare
    Win 10 Pro (64bit) MUI
    Service: 3Y PS NBD
    Battery: 6 Cell

    >Do you think 8950hk it's just too much to be managed under this chassis ?
Will i be able to use cpu at its full potential while running heavy simulations without burning my fingers while typing on it and hearing fans revving up to the point i'll need to wear anti-noise headphones ?

    >Do you suggest undervolt or even doing it the temps will basically be the same ?
What temps do you generally record at idle ? At load ?
Have you experienced sudden shoutdown due to very high temps ?

    >While normal usage like internet browsing or watching youtube videos, are fans quite or at some point without any fair reasons they kick in ?

    >What about "FHD IPS UltraSharp Wide View AntiGlare" display ?
    Is this 60hz ? 144hz ?
Have you ever noticed flickering due to pwm ? and so any headache or eye strain ?
What fhd panel do you have on your precison ?
Could you please check this important info using hwinfo ?

I don't really want to spend lots of money and then having a disappointing display...

    >Have you ever experienced power limit throttling due to insufficient psu max wattage ?

    >Is "3Y PS NBD" valid only if i buy the notebook from dell official online store ?

    >Even if i do not have any hardware issue, with "3Y PS NBD" i can just ask support to send a technician to my house to have dust removed from the fans + repaste both cpu and gpu ? At no extra cost ?

    >Choosing 2x8 gb ram configuration means that they're always installed under the keyboard ?
if yes, can i add 2x8 HyperX HX426S15IB2K2/16 on ram slots under back panel for a total of 32 gb ?

Or if i had 2x8 gb ram stick@2400 mhz, since stock 2x8 rams stick runs at 2666mhz, will i experience any weird behaviour ?

Different ram brands with different timings (and maybe also with different speed) can cause instability and even bsod ?
I don't think i will be able to find same exact oem ram sticks that dell put under precision units.

    >32gb with 4x8 ram sticks might be less performant than 32gb with 2x16 ram sticks ?

I really hope you guys can help me !

The CPU will thermal throttle. You must undervolt (and maybe apply better paste) if you want it to run at full turbo all of the time. You will hear the fans, but I do not think that they are unreasonably loud (I've heard laptops that sound way worse). In my 7530, I can barely hear the fans during light work (i.e. web browsing), they only kick in when I start doing something that makes the CPU busy.

All displays offered in this system are 60 Hz. Some people are bothered that the 1080p display is 6-bit per color and not 8-bit. You have to get the 4K display to get 8-bit.

The PSU is sufficient that you shouldn't run into power throttling. The P3200 in the 7530 is actually clocked down from the P3200 in the 7730 though. This is hard-coded into the vBIOS and I don't think that there is any way around this at the moment.

You won't get a technician to come to your house if you are not having an issue. Techs aren't typically trained to do a "really good" job repasting the CPU/GPU. You'd be better off learning how to do this properly and doing it yourself.

RAM is supposed to be installed under the keyboard if you get two sticks and not four, so that upgrading will be easier later. (Removing the keyboard to access the RAM slots isn't very hard, though.) Always have all of your RAM modules have the same speed and CAS latency, otherwise you'll have better modules running lower than spec to match your worse ones, or in some cases, the system will not POST because a common timing between all of the modules cannot be found. Different brands are fine as long as the speed and latency are the same.

Can anyone who has a 7730 with a quadro >=3200 comment on it's throttling behavior?

I've been testing a 7730 with a firepro wx 7100 the past few weeks, and the gpu throttling behavior is pretty bad. I do expect it to throttle somewhat, but after a while of fully utilizing the gpu it starts rubberbanding between *half* the default clock speed, and full clock speed, every 2 seconds or so.

I'm just trying to see if this behavior comes from the firepro vbios or the system itself.

(I've tested this at very low CPU load and the behavior is the same)

I have the p4200 and I don't have any throttling to speak of. I have the cpu undervolted and reapplied thermal paste and my clocks seem steady under benchmarks and gaming. I don't run furmark or anything on laptop as I feel it's asking for issues

I have a Dell Precision 7510 currently with an Samsung M.2 960 Pro 1 TB.
I have ordered a 7530 w i9-8950HK and P3200. Too late to do anything about it now of course, but just curious about this:
Noting that the P3200 is a Max-Q in this machine, am I correct in guessing the P2000 was not a Max-Q but is the real deal?
If the P2000 is not a Max-Q, am I also correct that I am better off, money aside, going with the P3200 Max-Q vs the read deal P2000?

I do no gaming but only need the power for SOLIDWORKS.

    Thanks!

7530 P3200 isn't "officially" max-Q but they do have the clocks lowered from the "official"/7730 version.
You are right, it is still faster than a P2000 regardless. If you want the best graphics performance possible then you should get it.

To anyone who has 7530 with FHD display:

Could you please use hwinfo (https://www.hwinfo.com/download/) and report your panel model ?
Would be better if you can post a screenshot like this one:

Do you know of or have you heard of services that will repaste the CPU/GPU since Dell probably won't? I have physically limitations that prevent me from doing it myself.

Any good computer/laptop repair place will do it for a fee, I used to do a ton when I worked at a little shop. Where are you located? Perhaps a nearby member would be able to help you out.
