Precision 7510 Owner's Thread

Jeez well that sucks. So Im pretty much only going to get charging with an E-Dock.

 

Am I the only one who's pissed that I got this laptop for it's GPU upgradeability, yet there are no Pascal Type A cards out in the market?
I know it's not Dell's fault, and I LOVE my laptop, it's build quality is out-of-this-world, it's cool, it's pretty quiet, it has decent battery life (got the extended one), but this m2000m card is just worthless, it's a huge bottleneck that makes the 4h of battery life unjustified.
I've seen a GTX 1050 on TaoBao for like.. $300, do you guys think it will be a good investment?
I wasn't hoping for something fancy, I actually had a 1050Ti in mind, but you barely hear about MXM anymore, so I have no hopes for a next-gen MXM-A card.
Anyone got some insights about this? Anything new in the mini-stx (motherboards with mxm slots) scene? based MXM roadmap\funeral of some sort?

 

It looks like HP has gone MXM with their newest ZBook line (the full-size ones, not the "slim" ones), which are not on the market yet but will be soon. So, Quadro P1000 and P2000 MXM type A cards should show up at some point. P2000-mobile appears to have very similar specs to the GeForce 1050 Ti.

Dell is officially moving away from MXM for the Precision line... Haven't heard what Lenovo is doing yet. You're right, MXM is becoming more and more "niche", type A in particular. (Smaller systems are more likely to have soldered GPUs and larger systems use type B.) There's always the Thunderbolt option...

 

Mind sharing where you got the info about the MXM thingy? Google didn't come up with anything, while YouTube did have a ZBook G5 (bulkier one) commercial that showed it having a soldered P2000.

 

I haven't seen it confirmed but someone found that you can see the MXM card in the ZBook G5 manual. I assumed that what was in the 17" would carry over to the 15" (since that is normally the case...).

I just ordered a Dell-branded WX 4150 (part no. 0V30XX) from an ebay seller. There aren't any public benchmarks for this card, so I guess I'll be the first to do so when it arrives?

 

My screen (UHD) is flickering like a cheap CRT screen from the 90s especially on the upper corners of the screen. Has anybody experienced similar issue?

 

The WX 4150 GPU upgrade was a success. Driver installation was the tricky part; the drivers package from Dell would not recognize the card, and manual installation of the driver did not solve the issue of trying to install the Radeon software. I tried the Radeon Pro (Dell 7520) drivers from AMD's website next; voila, it installed everything and the card is listed as "Radeon Pro WX Series".

Contrary to what is listed on notebookcheck, the GDDR5 memory runs at 6 GHz effective, not 7 GHz (if anyone knows the secret to OC this card with current drivers, let me know?). The only benchmark I had on hand was 3dmark 11 - it scored close to 6800 points on Performance.

The supportconnect program today indicated there was a 'free parts replacement' for the dell 7510.

Weird. Anyone else see this?
