Yuck. First I've heard of this on the 7510. (M3800 used to have these complaints all over the place.) I haven't heard any noise like this from my 7510 and normally I'd be someone to notice/complain about this.

What CPU do you have? Hopefully it is a rare problem (haven't seen any other complaints about this here) and a motherboard/CPU swap will take care of it. However, if you had the same issue with the Latitude, maybe it's not a rare problem and you just have more sensitive ears than most.....

Yeah, I was relatively surprised :(

It's with the 6820HQ so I wonder if it's associated with that CPU as the Latitude I had also had the same spec cpu, hmmmm.

Was offered a motherboard replacement however I have requested a refund/return if that doesn't get approved I'll see how the new motherboard goes.

I can't get my numlock or Num Lock key to enable at boot on my 7510. I have it checked to do so in the BIOS. I just upgraded to the latest BIOS 1.05.04 yesterday and still no luck. Since I received this machine a few months ago this has never worked. Any ideas?

Are you trying to have numluck enabled after boot after Windows loads, or do you need it functioning before Windows boots? Windows will always clear the state at boot no matter what you do in the BIOS. It should turn it on again after you log in. There is a registry setting to adjust this behavior, see: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000792.htm

One of our two 7710 laptops do this. Not the laptop I work with else I would have called Pro Support on it day one. The person using the 7710 with coil whine says he doesn't hear it even after I describe it in detail as it is happening. For that one having the whine we've decided to let it alone since he cannot hear it and it doesn't bother me unless I borrow his laptop... and if any other issues arise later we may ask for replacement board.

On the 7710 doing this it takes about an hour of warm up after booting... then after fans ramp up, if I use dells software to quiet the fans, then the whine is noticeable to me. I know from reading about this that it has often been in poor quality AC adapters and sometimes when unplugging the AC adapter the whine will stop. Simple repair in those cases is to replace the adapter under warranty. In our 7710 with whine, it is in the laptop itself, near the corner where the power plugs in. I don't know if it is a poor fan bearing in that particular corner, or some copper coil whine on the mobo or if the power extension cable that is inside the case that connects to the mobo is at fault. I'm not an electrician. :) But anyway, our 7710 whine is not from the AC adapter. Even at idle CPU usage we get the whine.

I got my refurbished m7510 today, an awesome upgrade from M4400. Everything seems to be fine, but all USB ports are extremely tight in both ways. They are so tight that it's two handed operation to insert and remove USB plug (had to hold down the laptop with one hand). Otherwise the laptop would move with the USB plug. This can't be normal, right?

It is normal for the ports to be very tight on these systems. After some use they will loosen up.

I'm in the market for some new RAM and for the life of me I can find the max clock speed @ 64GB. I know I that it takes 2667 sticks at 32GB, but I'm fairly certain I saw 64GB caps at 2133.

    Anyone know?

NOOB question, about to buy RAM. As long as I keep the same RAM sized sticks within the same channel, is it safe to install 8GB x 2 of RAM along with 4GB x 2 that the machine comes stock with? Is it alright with the 7510 to have 8 * 8 * 4 * 4 for a total of 24GB of RAM?

    Advance thanks :)

I think as long as it is the same type and speed you should be ok. In my 7710 I am running 40GB. the 8GB x 1 that came with it (under keyboard) and 16GB x 2 I added.
