Just put in my order and save $1,742.44 with current 35% off
Free S&H would have been $52.99
Also save additional $300 with coupon (save300)

Hi Folks. I am going to purchase a 7510 and would appreciate a bit of advice before I take the plunge.

I am an architecture student so my main concerns are using Revit, Sketchup, Vray, Autocad, Photoshop, Indesign etc...

The spec I have picked out is as follows:
    Windows 10
    NVIDIA Quadro M2000M w/4GB GDDR5
15.6" UltraSharp UHD IGZO(3840x2160) Wide View Anti-Glare LED-backlit with Premium Panel Guarantee
    32GB (2x16GB) 2133MHz RAM
512GB M.2 SATA SED Solid State Drive
Additional 1TB 2.5inch SATA (7200 Rpm) Hard Drive
    6-cell (91Wh) Lithium Ion battery with ExpressCharge™

However I am unsure as to what Processor to choose... I have it down to two options:
    Intel® Core i7-6920HQ Processor (Quad Core 2.90GHz, 3.80GHz Turbo, 8MB 45W, w/Intel HD Graphics 530)
    Intel® Xeon® E3-1545M v5 (Quad Core Xeon 2.90GHz, 3.80GHz Turbo, 8MB 45W, w/Iris Pro Graphics P580)

They are essentially the same price, so if anyone could advise me as to whether or not either is more suited to the kind of work I'll be doing I would be grateful.

Also any advise on extras I should get or any potential issues with the above spec woudl be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for reading.

I would go with the Xeon simply because the Irirs Pro 580 graphics are twice as fast as HD 530.

If those are the only two processor choices and they're the same price, I agree, go for the Xeon. (On premier, for me, the Xeon is about $110 more expensive, and I would not find it worth that.)

If the i7-6820HQ is an option, I'd save the money and get that (it's about $200 cheaper than the i7-6920HQ on my premier page; YMMV); you won't use the HD graphics much on that machine with the large NVidia GPU.

Also, why the self-encrypting drive? If possible, I'd get a PCI-e drive, and at least on my premier the price difference at 512gb is quite small.

Firstly, many thanks for your response. I used to be somewhat informed regarding computers but have fallen out of the loop over the last few years and I appreciate hearing from someone who knows.

There is about 100eur in the difference but on a 3k machine I would happily pay the extra 100 for superior hardware.

Yeah the i7-6920HQ is an option but I'd be worried that I'll be sitting looking at the screen at some point (no doubt before a deadline) cursing myself for not getting a more powerful machine?

I had no idea I had chosen a self encrypting drive.
    These are my options here
So I'll go with the "512GB M.2 PCIe High Performance Solid State Drive, MPWS"?

The difference between all top cpu is very small. I'd be interested to see if the drivers for the iris are better than the rest of the igpu drivers have been, in terms of them crashing alot. I'd personally opt towards the 6820 or 6920. Xenon is nice, but I think there's a few instruction sets not available on that platform. I made that mistake before going 5930k vs 6700k, loosing out on h.265 encoding . Granted yes I have a powerful gpu that can handle it, but I'd rather the cpu easily handle it vs needed to gpu beef it's way through

Its kinda interesting that Dell started offering Iris Pro 580 graphics with no announcement, at least I didn't see any announcement. I wonder if it will eventually be offered on the non-Xenon processors.

Same cache size, same processor core, and just a minimal clock speed bump on the i7-6820HQ to i7-6920HQ; I wouldn't find it worth it, even on a machine that pricey.

The Xeon might be: the other advantage to the Xeon e3-1545M in particular beyond the better integrated video is that the eDRAM used for the video memory is also an L4 cache for the CPU. 128MB of on-package cache can make a very big difference in some workloads (and almost none in others.)

I'd recommend getting PCIe at your price range; I'm somewhat vague on the difference between the regular and "high performance" PCIe drives, but it's been discussed up-thread.
