Well I called and was told basically take it the way it is or return for a full refund and order something else as they cannot replace the screen with a refurb. Their support is fubared cannot hardly understand who I'm talking too in tuen I wonder if they understand me and my needs. This is a great system but for 840 I should get the screen i ordered is the LED that much better to loss the great system? I told them I'd think about it and call back if I decide to return. With all the grainy LED
complaints I don't know....now it they would of me credited me 50 or 70 bucks or so that would of made it more attractive on the side of keeping it. I wish they could speak clearly.

As far as I know they use the same screens for both the led and the ccfl backlight displays. The only difference is the backlight.

If you have the led backlight then the whole lid assembly should be thinner then the lid assembly with a ccfl backlight.

Another way to tell is with ccfl backlights it takes a minute or so for the ccfl tube to warm up to full brightness after its been off for a while. A led backlight should not need a warm up period after the screen turns on.

If I was you I would measure the thickness of the lid assembly. Then compare it with someone that ordered the same model laptop but with a ccfl backlight. Yours should be thinner if it has a led backlight.

I have a e6500 with a WXGA ccfl backlight display and the thickness of my lid assembly is a hair over 3\8 of an inch thick. If your lid is thinner then 3\8 of an inch, I would say you do have the led backlight. But since you have a e6400 your best bet is to check with someone with a e6400 and compare it with yours.

Well I'm pretty sure its a ccfl, everything else is fine with this system no even a scratch on it. Who knows what a exchange would bring and those others in the outlet say Led also who knows what I'll get, possible another ccfl or other problem, talking to Dell to resolve problems is a PITA,,, I cannot understand them, When I bought my D620 2 years ago new, the support was great. Its dreadful trying to get a solution now. They could of offered another solution 75 dollars credit or somthing just to attempt to make good instrad of telling me to send it in for a full refund and reorder. I cannot understand why they could not exchange the display it would take about 10 minutes aqt least on the ones I replaced on Dells.

    Thanks Dennis

I configured a new E6400 with the 1280x800 Res they all state LED, CCFL is not even an option. Went back to the Outlet and not one E6400 specs as a CCFL they too are all
listed as LED. What gives? Did they earlier E6400 models have the CCFL backlights as standard and the fail to distinguish this at the Outlet thus my dilemma ?

That's a bunch of bull. I'm almost certain if your receipt says a LED, yuo should be entitled to get one. I'm sorry to say, but your going to have to either hope for a good Dell rep, or get angry and escalate. Don't be afraid to push your point I guess.

If Dell sent me a WXGA+ with CCFL backlight, I would return it and back to Lenovo again.

It was suppose. to be a WXGA (1280X800) LED They must out source to India even the Business Line systems when they are purchased from the Dell Outlet, I seriously cannot understand half of what these agents a trying to say....no offense. When I purchased a new Latitude two years ago the
    service was great !

Yeah, it was odd. When I first called Dell Support, I got a Lady who I could barely hear with all the static and heavy accent. But then, when I got transferred to Tech Support, I got this white guy with a very American sounding voice haha...

I wonder if they replaced a defective LED with the CCFL during refurb? But the base specs are what showed up on the outlet?
