The gecube rep just got back to me on the RX460 price -It's exactly the same... He confirms that their 560 chips are the crippled "D" version with 14/896, so the rx460 and rx560 performance is pretty similar.

    https://www.pcgamer.com/amd-quietly-downgraded-some-radeon-rx-560-graphics-cards

I think I'm officially done with gecube -My m4600 is fine with the m5100 for now. If he gets back to me with a better deal then I might grab one, but at this point, I have a m4800 and either gtx965m or m2200 coming from china, so I'm pretty done with trying to upgrade my m4600. Incidentally, the gtx965m was only like $250, so I ended up getting pretty much the same performance for only slightly more (fingers crossed).

@valuxin Did you give up on sbios modding the m4600 to accept maxwell gpus?

Good luck with 965m .. and let us know if it works on M4800.

    Is RX460 Type A 3.0 MXM?
RX480 is type B... too big for M4600 series.

@John Carlson Pascal cards are confirmed edp-only, and the gecube ones are desktop chips with no output on the internal display pins. All of the cards that have been discussed so far in this thread are mxm 3a, as the m4600 doesn't support mxm 3b.

It looks like you have been considering a mxm upgrade for your m4600 since you joined in June. Have you settled on a specific upgrade path yet? I see you're also planning to do a cpu upgrade on your m4800 -How's that going? Also, it looks like you are running a p5000 somewhere, and want to know if you can run a laptop with sli p5000s. In July you gave helpful tips about gddr5 being obsolete and slice batteries for the m4x00 series..

Sorry to be blunt, but in 8 months you have posted over 180 times, mostly in the gpu upgrade threads for m4600 and m4800, and yet I don't see ANY actual relevant info provided. I was closely following this thread to help me plan and execute my m5100 upgrade -The info valuxin and TheReceiver were discussing was EXTREMELY relevant, and all of that died almost immediately when the spamming started -It makes it really difficult for people to follow the thread for relevant info, and it drives away people trying to make real contributions for others attempting to upgrade their laptop.

Sorry again, but I don't understand what you get out of this. Anyways, I know that came off as rude -I sincerely apologize, but I just had to ask.

    Nope,
    I use M5100 on my M4600. That's all I have.
I plan to get a 4GB W5170M which is confirmed to be working on M4600.

I'm going with M1000M & M4700 combo in about a few months. I sold all other laptops...
My native language is Spanish. My mother speaks Chinese.

Nonetheless, this whole RX560 MXM card thread was started by me.
I post many useful news ... such as M5100 now selling for only $49 on Ebay.

If I upgrade my ranger I wouldn't mind seeing if I can install the 780m in the m4600. Would have to sacrifice the ram slots on that side of the motherboard but since the m4600 isn't my primary machine anymore it would make for a fun experiment.

Some members have gotten mxm3.0b cards working in their hp business laptops that originally only supported A type cards so the precedent is set, just a matter of if the gpu behaves well with the bios of course.

No time line, just wondering what I could do with the 780m after I upgrade my ranger.

I've read one success story of a MXM 3.0b card working in a 15" Precision. I don't remember if it was M4600 or M4800 (not sure how I could find the story to link it).

The BIOS shouldn't be an issue, it is virtually identical to the 17" M6X00 so any cards compatible with that system (in the appropriate generation) should work, it's just a matter of making the card physically fit and also cooling it properly... (You'll also want a 240W PSU I imagine.)

    [Edit]
Looking at pictures I guess it must have been the M4800, I remember that he mentioned removing part of the chassis so that the card could hang out, and that would be possible with the M4800 but not M4600.
