I dont really ever use passmark for a reference point so I have no idea how relevant it is.

These benchmarks are for the desktop cards too, so they're not spot-on. They should be broadly representative though. The rx560 is roughly double the performance of the m1000m, which is only marginally faster than the m5100.

You can pick up a 965m for $100 -In a M4700, that'll be way better than the m1000m

Yeah guessed as much, would be nice if the 965m came down in price but its the best solution until the RX 560 gets some traction in compatibility

Just to be clear, the gtx965m isn't viable in the m4600 because of the strange bios implementation valuxin wasn't able to correct -It works in both the m4700 and m4800, but not the m4600... Right?

Only works under Windows XP to the best of my knowledge. Couldnt work under 7, 8 or 10 iirc.

965M "should" work on both M4700 and M4800. We have multiple reports of Maxwell-based NVIDIA cards running fine on these systems (both Quadro and GeForce). (I'm using one myself.)

Even though it's $100 more expensive, I seriously considered buying one of these for the m4800:

    https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=564912409449

I think it might be the fastest mxm a card available (depending on who's reviewing it -I saw some benchmarks claiming the rx560 outperformed it),,,

Is there anything better out there? Looks like the power consumption is just too much for the mxm a socket. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the 80w tdp on the rx560, even if it ends up working in the m4600/m4800. I heard the aw m17x r4 gpu/cpu fans are drop-in cooling upgrades (unfortunately, I didn't think ahead to order them from china). Has anyone heard of dropping in a 3 or 5 pipe heatsink from one of the aw laptops into the m4600/4700/4800? It's really hard to tell if it would fit from the pictures. My m4600 gets pretty hot with the m5100 right now, and apparently the cooling in the m4800 isn't as good.

I can always pull off the bottom of the laptop and point a small fan at it, I have a couple of big heatsinks sitting around too, but it would be amazing to retain portability (assuming the lvds screen even works with the rx560).

    Thoughts?

I had no problem pulling 86w on the m5100

I killed it by flashing 1.225v for a benchmark run and forget to change it back afterwards. Wasn't really using it much anymore though.

m5100 is dead, m4600 runs just fine.
