@TheReciever Did you ever end up getting the 10.4cfm r17x r4 fan for your y510p project? Can you confirm whether it fits in the m4600 without modification? For that matter, how different are the m4600 and m4800 fans?

Yes I did, temps are documented I think though I cant really remember where. I know for sure on T|I but cant remember about if I posted that here.

As for relation to the m4600. The fan is already a high CFM output fan. The connector and amperage of the fans are different iirc.

So, I just got done chatting with one of the guys at gecube. My mandarin is just ok, so it was a bit difficult, but I think we got it sorted out. Apparently, this card doesn't have LVDS or EDP support! I let them know that I'll be using it to drive an external display via hdmi or displayport.

The mentioned wanting to know "what link I'm on" so they can adjust the bios -I'm not quite sure what they're referring to.

It doesn't have LVDS or eDP support, as in "out of the box"? But it CAN be achieved via BIOS mods, or..? o_O

I don't think so. Their first question was whether I was planning on using the card in a laptop... I'm guessing they didn't design it for laptop use. Who knows -I told them I still want the card, and I'm waiting for an email back from them.

@Aaron44126 Can you confirm whether (on the M4800), a non-lvds card would still be likely to work with the laptop screen due to switchable graphics?

Non-LVDS (ie. eDP only) should / would work in the M4800, but only with the QHD+ or eDP mainboards.

On the NVIDIA side, they would be not likely to work, even if you have an eDP motherboard. I was very interested in this for upgrading my Precision M6700 so I looked into it as much as I could. Out of all of the attempts that I have read about, the only success story in upgrading a Precision MX700 or MX800 machine to an NVIDIA Pascal GPU was a Precision M6700 that had the IPS display (which is eDP), and even then there were caveats like brightness control no longer working. @iieeann sunk some time and money into attempts to upgrade the Precision M6700 and M6800 (with eDP I think?) to a Quadro P5000 without success.

I don't think there are any non-LVDS NVIDIA GPUs available that will fit in the M4800. The best available is the Quadro M2200 which still supports LVDS and "should" work (I haven't heard from anyone who has actually tried it). I don't follow the AMD GPU situation very closely.

Gecube is saying their rx560 doesn't have lvds OR edp support.

So I skimmed a 'for dummies' description of how amd switchable graphics works, and it looks similar to optimus. In both cases, the igp handles the frame buffer and outputs to the laptop screen, and the discrete gpu fills the back buffer.

If I understood everything correctly, then I don't get how the discrete gpu output signal (lvds/edp) matters in the slightest (again, for the m4800).
