    Hmm... One thing i haven't tried yet, is to see what sort of material i could use as a shim, between the gpu "backplate" (into which the heatsink screws thread into), and the board, to maybe get a tiny bit more clamping pressure there. The PK-3 is pretty thick, i'm not sure i could even call it a paste. The AS5 from back in the day was considerably closer to "liquid" than this.

    For what it's worth, and i'm not 100% sure just how much relevance it has for the heat thing, but the latest GPU-Z says the ASIC quality's 75%.
    The "metalwork" between the M4600 and M4800 looks very very similar (if not even identical, at least what can be seen with the bottom cover removed), so i'm not quite sure where the difference lies...

    <EDIT>
    Nope, i take that back - the 4600 heatsink, going by what's in the owner's manual, is actually a "gullwing", ie. it has pipes going to both exhaust vents (with the cpu heatsink fins being more "inside"); the 4800 has the gpu heatsink only on the right-hand side. NOW the temperature differences start to make sense :D

    Yeah, they both switch to what seems to be full-blast when the gpu ticks over to 80C.

    I just edited my previous post with new information a minute ago - you'll get your explanation there :D

    Oh you have an m4800?

    Why wouldnt you just save the cash for a 965m then? Significantly better card, practically double everything, VRAM and performance.

    Yeah, i thought i had mentioned it somewhere here before, but i guess i couldn't blame you for missing it :D

    Significantly better than (hopefully) that RX560?

    Either way, let's just say there's not a whole lotta love for team green going on in this household ;)

    if these new GTX cards were $180, I would love to give it a try but the problem is these cards are not really available for purchase until you pay $400+
    Supply of M2200M, M1200M, 965m seems to be regulated by Dell. They're not interested in letting people get new graphic cards before buying their new expensive laptops (1k+).

    RX 560 is still an unknown.

    I hope it works, but like all things if you want the best you have to pay for it. Once news spreads on the RX 560 I would be surprised if the value of it doesnt skyrocket.
