    Just curious,

How do I know I got what I ordered?
(Obviously I don't know much about monitors) but is that Samsung one the 'more expensive/better' one?

Yes, the Samsung is one of the screens that you may get if you order the 'more expensive/better' one. You could also get the LG, which is the good display.

It seems to me that most of the problems with the Samsung are due to the horrible viewing angles. If you view a certain part of the screen perfectly perpendicularly then it isn't too bad. The problem is that the viewing angles are so bad that if your eyes are level with the center of the screen and you are viewing it perpendicularly then the top and bottom of the screen are lesser quality because of the viewing angles. There is no sweet spot on this screen, if you want to see it good at the top, you are sacrificing quality on the bottom.

Personally, if I hear of people sucessfully getting LG's as replacements, then I'm going to call as well. I wouldn't return the notebook over it, and I know that if I called for a replacement then I would likely just get another SEC, since LG's are pretty rare here.

I don't understand the complaints about the Samsung Sec5442. It looks better than the LG to me (the contrast is better). (I had a samsung for my replacement.)

It's quite likely that there are better and worse versions of each display and it's good to read that there can be good Samsung displays. Otherwise people just think it's a bad screen because others say so, without judging it for themselves.

I agree because there are threads that say the LG is better than the Samsung and threads that say that the Samsung is better than the LG.

I'd like to chime in! I got a Precision M4400 with an LG WXGA+ LED panel and it was grainy. I'm used to matte displays and in fact, prefer them over glossy ones - my current laptop and external display both have matte screens. The display I got really was poor, not because I'm not used to matte displays. As soon I loaded up Windows, I noticed the grain on a white background.

Again, the display that I have is by no means reason for me to return the computer. But should I find out that the E6400's are now coming with the LG (the LG is good for 14.1, bad for 15.4) then I would phone up support and get a new one sent to me.

The Samsung on my E6400 has absolutely zero grain at all. It really is just the viewing angles for me.

Greg would you happen to know which of the two, LG or Sam is better for the E6500's 15.4's ?

We have several I8600 all with 15.4 TFT WSXGA screens that everyone here has been very happy with. I hope these LEDs will at least be as good. Otherwise they'll be going back to Dell.

I wish there were more reviews on the E6500. I can't find a good review that uses the same batterylife test so I can compare it. The E6500 looks pretty good though.

For the WXGA+ LED screen on the E6500, the general concensus seems to be that the Samsung is better.
