I'll be using a monitor when I'm in my dorm, and when I'm in class or whatnot I think it will suffice. Mostly I deal with math and circuits programs, which don't require too much screen real estate. I think the smaller size and increased portability will be more beneficial.

The 6400 is about the size of my current system based on my measurements, and I'm really interested in something a bit smaller.

yeah that seems alright, but i think you could do better. dont get too caught up with the coupons; it seems that they raise the prices a bit so you dont actually save that much. its really not too huge of a deal.

I think you could get much better deals when the coupon is available. But we really don't know when the coupon will be available again, so if you need it now, you have to pay a bit more.

The only concern I have is whether you want the WXGA+ screen or not. Also, if you want the 9-cell, it is much cheaper to buy a system with that option instead of adding it later. And do you need Vista Business?

Another example of what you can find from the outlet. I got the following e6400 from the outlet last week:

    Latitude E6400 - $769
    Previously Ordered New
    2.26GHz Intel P8400
Windows XP Pro w/ Vista Business License
    14.1" WXGA+ LED display
    4GB DDR2-800 RAM
    80GB 7200rpm HD
    Intel GMA 4500MHD
    DVD-RW
    Back-lit Keyboard
    No Fingerprint Reader
    No Webcam
    Dell 1510-N wireless card
    Dell 370 Bluetooth module
    6-cell Battery
    Brushed Metal Black

It takes a little looking but you can find exactly what you need. The only compromise I made was in the HDD size at 80Gb, but this would be one of the easiest upgrades.

    Mike
