Has anyone here tried installing XFCE on their 7510? If so, how functional was it?

Anyone get WOL to work on their new precisions? I can send magic wakeup packet through my LAN to the precision's ethernet MAC address and it wakes my system from SLEEP successfully, but it won't wake it while it is powered off.

    I'm at BIOS 1.3.12

I'm trying to bring up 7710 configuration setup on Dell's US business website for another system to order. But it looks like they've changed the configurator to lock in specific components. In other words, I'm trying to order a 2nd system identicle to the one in my signature but I can't seem to setup a system for m5000m and UHD display. Weird. I may have to call in the order. As long as they email me the specifications of my order so I can confirm exactly what I'm getting. Trouble is that when I've read itemized compnent listings from Dell in the past it is quite subjective with codes or misnomers. It will likely be okay, but wish their wesbite would be consistent and allow for full customization as it was when I ordered the 1st system I'm typing from now.

*I wonder if it is limited selection based on stock on hand or if for some other reason.

**actually, might be best if I call them direct for the order. Is better for negotiating price perhaps.

    I
Yes, I would call 'em ... In my case I had to go through a Sales Rep to get the TB3 option added on - It wasn't available through the Dell Configurator on the Dell Canada website. I bet if you talk to a Dell Sales Rep you can get your customization.

What is the chance of Dell doing a minor refresh with a non-chicklet keyboard? With each model after the M6400 you've given me reasons to delay upgrading. With the current model, the d@mn chicklet keyboard is the dealbreaker. Also, the layout and the lack of dedicated volume and mute keys are a huge detractor making it even worse. Bring back the M6400 keyboard layout and dedicated volume keys! :-(

I <3 my M6400 keyboard (as far as membrane keyboards go anyhow... if MSI's GT80S weren't carry-on-unfriendly for flying I'd go for that - mechanical keyboard - in a laptop!!!)

I've kind of given up. I've found two very light weight and compact travel mechanical keyboards (with knockoff "MX Blue" switches), and for heavy work just bring those and my trusty Logitech M570. Search on "Qisan 82-key Mechanical keyboard" for the more complete of the two; by far the smallest keyboard I've seen with a full set of function and directional keys.

Dell rep who visits here sometimes says he would mention keyboard suggestions to his team for next time. Not sure when or if they will update the 7710 keyboard. Seems unlikely and if they did change it they probably would not change from the island keyboard since that would impact the existing structure of the laptop too much. They may change layout a bit or dedicate some keys, etc. But who knows?

I actually prefer the new 7000 series precision laptop keyboard over my m6500 keyboard for typing. And it is very different feel than my favorite mechanical keyboard (Maxkeyboard Blackbird TKL with brown switches and WASD rubber o-ring dampners). Yet I still prefer the new laptop keyboard. I use the Blackbird keyboard when using external displays for obvious reasons (don't want to type from the laptop if I have to turn my head to look at the external monitor). But when I go mobile or otherwise don't have an external display, I use the laptop keyboard. I bring my Logitech Anywhere MX mouse along with me everywhere, but I've gotten much better using the touchpad lately and I like it's gestures especially for pinch zoom.

I still recommend the Blackbird if anyone is looking for a TKL mechanical. Comes in a variety of cherry switches.

I accidentally deleted my post here where I was asking about which backup software is preferred. Here I go again....

Needs to work well for making images of NVMe drives that were formated for GPT GUID and in uEFI if that matters.

Also, how to boot to USB thumb drive? I can boot into the Windows Boot/Recovery partition that is on my system drive, but not to my Windows Recovery USB thumb drive. Same issue if I try to boot to a clonezilla linux thumb drive.

I'm currently using Windows own Backup/Recovery. But I'm looking for something else.
    Thanks
