Thanks, I found it. I didn't know the 7710 hands on thread was serving as the owner thread for that model.

Agreed, I was referring to the 7000 series as I already have a M3800. The Linux laptop market is admittedly small, but Dell's policy of releasing Linux support so much later than Windows support has to be under representing it even further. It seems rigged, even if it's not intentional.

Edit: just checked the site. Looks like you can now get the 7710 with Ubuntu 14.04. Too late for me, but at least they eventually added it.

From beginning Dell promised full support under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. You can order Dell Precision 5510, 7510 and 7710 without operating system (actually with FreeDOS) and install Ubuntu by yourself since October 2015.

You do not have to wait for Ubuntu pre-installed option or buy some funny System 76 toys. Dell 5000 and 7000 series support Ubuntu 14.04 LTS perfectly and will support coming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Just to clarify, one could have ordered the 5510 without an OS since last October? Was that a hidden configuration or something? I ordered my 5510 on 01/20, and I could only select Windows 7 or Windows 10 for the OS. (However, I did just check the Dell website and one can now select Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, but that wasn't there before.)

I got Windows 10 on my 5510, just in case I decide to install it in the future. I had an extra Windows 7 key, so I have it installed for now (not without some pains -- I've mentioned the issues in 5510 Owner's Lounge thread).

You have just to ask the customer service consultant and you can get: discount from on-line price and you can order unusual configuration (for example without Windows).

FreeDOS is available for every Dell`s notebook, but not presented on website.

Unsurprisingly, having been informed by Dell Sales Rep that the Type-C will be available from 18/02, I have found this not to be the case today. Spoke to Dell again and got the following:

"The thunderbolt is not yet out and will at least take couple of more weeks."

This is outrageous at this stage. Complete lack of respect from Dell, we keep getting fed with dates which are never met. It's a joke.
Pity that Dell representatives seem to have ceased reading this forum.
