Linux is mentioned in the 5510 setup guide, so it should be supported.

Hi jimmichels, do you have a source for when they will be released and which models will get it? The tweet I linked was the only thing I've seen so far resembling an official announcement that it will happen. While I'd love to be in Dell's Linux user statistics, I unfortunately need a new system prior to a trip in the middle of December, and in the past the time between the XPS 13 refreshes and the "developer edition" releases have taken longer than the time I have.

Allowing for perhaps two or three weeks between the time you place an order and the time you get your system, I doubt you have enough time to wait around for this one.

I read a story [several years ago now] that it should be possible to get a refund for the Windows license portion of your system cost if you do not intend to use it. Just gotta jump through some hoops and find the right person to talk to.

ManoG confirmed earlier in this thread, that they will start new gradation of SSD drives, like Mainstream, performance, high performance, mega expensive performance (or like that :) ). With first 2 available for XPS and 2, 3 and 4 - for precision.

I thought that too at first but on the 7510 there is a price difference of about $70 USD between the two equally sized 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSDs. The "High Performance" is a $499 upgrade while the other is a $429 upgrade. So I think they are actually different performance grade else they would be same prices.

My real interest is in the big 1TB m.2 SSD... the 1TB m.2 PCIe NVMe SSD that does not have "High Performance" notation, and being the only 1TB m.2 drive available, I wonder if there will be a "High Performance" grade of that drive at some point. Also would like to see how the perfomance of the 1TB m.2 compares to the "High Performance" 512GB m.2. I'm actually waiting until the 7710 with Thunderbolt 3 becomes available in January, so until then I'll wait for reviews to help me make a buying decision on which drives I'll get with it.

I see that now looking over it again. I swear it wasn't like that before though. Annoys me that the high performance option wasn't available for the 5510. Interestingly, it lists a high performance SATA SSD for $479 though which seems odd. I'm sure the basic 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD will be more than fast enough for my purposes though. Just like wishing I had overclocked memory rather than 2133MHz, but in reality it might add 1% improvement based on all the reading I've done. That's one of the reasons I went ahead and ordered my 5510 because those few things would be much more expensive, but provide relatively minor performance improvements.

Can't wait to get mine and see how it performs though.

I can't wait for you to get the 5510 too, I'm excited to see actual owners feedback on the new systems. I'm certain the PCIe SSD you ordered with your system will scream performance especially compared to existing SATAIII SSDs.

I'd label them as early adopters, if they're unable to wait.

Can someone link me to or post a pick of the bottom of the 7710?

Didn'tealize this, but after checking the 7510 options I see what you mean. There you have the choice of::
    • 512GB M.2 PCIe Solid State Drive, MPWS [add £243.60 or £9/month-1]
    • 512GB M.2 PCIe High Performance Solid State Drive, MPWS [add £290.50 or £11/month-1
For the 5510 only the first choice is available :-(.
