yeah, I'm surprised there is a 1TB m.2 PCIe SSD in existence at all, because I've not seen them anywhere until I saw Dell mentioning them as options.

But ignoring the 1TB m.2 SSD for a moment, I'm still curious the difference between the two equally sized 512GB PCIe NVMe SSDs, one noted as "High Performance" and the other without that notation.

Is this 'interposer' available on the 5510 too?

Interested in this too! I ordered a 5510 yesterday but without a 2,5" drive for now...still wanna put one in later though.

    You will need this :
575-BBHS : 7mm Hard Drive Bracket for 7mm Hard Drive if you plan on putting an SSD in there later(not sure if it will come with that bracket if you don't order it with a hard drive). I'm ordering 3 - 5510's for my kids for Christmas and chose the cheapest 1TB 5400HDD and when Samsung releases their 4TB SSD's in early 2016 and the prices drop on the 2TB SSD's will replace the HDD with those (2TB)/

someone in the xps15 thread was looking for the interposer too. Here is the link to the post with interposer part number...

Dell XPS 15 with Infinity Display (2015)

seems it is the same interposer shared with some of the new precisions. Might want to double check though when ordering if it is the interposer part for the 5510

I seem to remember them being the same price which leads me to believe it is just a notation error. Originally, the 5510 also had two 512 GB m.2 PCIe SSD's listed but after a couple days they eliminated one in the configurator.

I like the Dell. Dual fans exhaust out the rear. Both HP and Lenovo exhaust to the side.

I think because you can choose the 2.5" to be your prim or secondary.

Edit, looks like they changed the exhaust location on the ZBook G3. The pics no longer and show air vent on the side.

I think there needs to be a bit of clarity here.

Typically an 'interposer' is just the technical term for an adapter cable/plug which may or may not include a bracket as well, and is usually used in the context of SAS drives in servers.

Dell calls the SATA cable linking a SATA drive in the 2.5" bay to the motherboard as the 'interposer', but it also calls the bracket and a completely different cable that allows the 7510 to host a PCIe M.2 drive in the 2.5" bay an 'interposer' too.

I believe the part number mentioned in the XPS thread is just for the SATA cable to be able to host a bog standard SATA drive. The question I'm asking is whether the 5510 can host a PCIe M.2 drive in the 2.5" like the 7510 can.

Having 2x M.2 drives puts a machine into a completely different league to having 1x M.2 drive and 1x SATA.

My understanding is that they have already announced that Ubuntu and Redhat Linux will be available for the new precision line. I've also been told that the Linux configurations will be added a few weeks after the initial launch. This part is very confusing to me. The Linux user base is already small enough. Do we really need to under-represent them further by mislabeling them as Windows users if they order early and install Linux themselves to avoid the wait?
