Looks like there is some movement on Dell's site with regard to the upcoming M6800/M4800 precision laptops. Came across these pages...

    Product support for Precision M6800
    Product support for Precision M4800

Nothing useful on those pages at the time I posted this. They might have been there a while; the format is different to the links for the 6700/4700 (which don't have the -workstation) so aren't easily guessable for anyone snooping around hoping to get early info (like me!). I just spotted them in a google search earlier today. I try that search every day and I've not seen these links before. Maybe the pdfs for the manuals will turn up there soon and in advance of the official specs as happened with the M6700. If these really are new pages, maybe the pdfs are imminent.

This is good news. Hopefully these will be available before mid-September as I desperately need to have it in my hot little hands before I leave for India.

However, I am wondering if it will be starting at an exorbitant price that is well above the "normalised" pricing currently on their website (m4700). They've had a discount running for weeks now, but really it just makes it competitive with Apple's rMBP pricing (although, still more expensive when configured to maximum which is reasonable of course). Paying over $4K for the base graphics with 32GB RAM and two SSDs and an IPS panel (for the 4800) is not a reasonable price considering that the chassis is no longer an excellent design that seeks to be as light and as compact as possible yet still able to keep all components cool and reasonably quiet.

I guess we'll see. But I'm not counting on anything truly competitive and innovative from DELL. Like many of the OEMs, they seem to continually miss the opportunity to create very desirable products that you want to pay the price for. That said, the m3800 looks like a beautiful product with an innovative new chassis design for a Precision model. Pitty about the lack of 32GB capability. 32GB is the sweet spot for running a cloud lab on VM infrastructure which is what I want to do.

For pricing, the Precisions don't go down very much after their original release so you can expect the M4800/M6800 to be not much more expensive. However, it won't be as easy to find a discount. (When the M6700 was released there were extra coupons available that only worked for M4600/M6600. I'm sure a rep would be more apt to discount the older system than the newer. Etc.)

That is good price though, did you check whether there were similar discounts for the M4700.

Just adequate by video editing standards. So I wouldn't have it any other way. Don't miss out on a great deal!

I gave in and bought a loaded Precision m6700 out of the outlet since they have the 20% off coupon going right now. Although I would have loved to have Haswell, I couldn't pass up the deal. This will be my first Precision, I have always had Latitudes before.

Good luck with the wait, it will be worth it...or go check out the Precisions in the outlet :).
