I wouldn't put cosmetic as the main reason that I purchased Dell Precision M4600. It is thicker and heavier than others norm in the market.
Even my friend raised their eyebrow when I got out my old-looking M4600. Lol. Still, I love M4600. I wouldn't trade this with other norm laptop, but I would trade with newer Precision 15". :)

As many pointed out, reliability and performance are the keys of Dell Precision.

Don't get me wrong. I would definitely want a thinner and lighter precision as long as there is no compromise over warm-hand issue.
I love my M4600, primarily due to this reason. I believe many other thin laptop suffer this heat issue.

I know it is a very different kind of computer (gaming vs. business) but while waiting for Dell to get their act together and release the M6800 I recently came across the MSI Dragon 2 and have become quite enamored with it. Here is a link for those of you who are not familiar with it: MSI GT70 2OD-039US 17.3" Gaming Notebook GT70 2OD-039US B&H. I have never heard or worked with a MSI notebook, so I struggle to compare it to the Dells I have had for the last 8 years, but I have used their motherboards in the past and always been impressed. Do any of you have thoughts on the MSI Dragon 2 and how it compares with the Precision 6800? It seems like a pretty comparable machine for less money.

Can't wait for M4800! I've been checking on Dell's site nearly everyday for the past 1 month hoping the M4800 will be released soon.

I'm still using M4500... it is awesome, but it's way too outdated. There isn't a HDMI port and such, and it is getting tough for it to meet my demands. So just hope the M4800 will be out soon.

Strangely, my country's Dell portal has ceased selling M4700. Those whom are interested needs to "call" them.
I guess that's a hint that it will be out soon? ;)

As you know, there are a number of machines you can get that match the Precision in terms of specs but are a bit cheaper. The Precision stands out on build quality, business support, and ease of maintenance.

3-year next-day support is standard on the Precision. Are you going to be able to get MSI on the phone?

Of course, maybe this stuff isn't an issue for you, in which case the MSI might be a great choice.

I hear ya, which is why this decision is hard for me. I have had Latitude's for the last eight years and have loved them. I like that they are a well-built business notebook that is made to be user serviceable and backward compatible (I never have to worry about finding a charger). What is getting me here is the magnitude of the difference: $1,000 for essentially the same specs. It is true, I love Dell's customer service on their business lines, but for $1,000 I can get someone on the phone. I suppose the question is what is the build quality and reliability like on the MSI computers. I will head over to their forum to ask that.

    Happy 4th!

Thinking more of for gaming I guess. :p
K5000M only shows up in Precision and EliteBook, AFAIK.

Some Clevos offer the K5000m as well, those laptops don't get certification from CAD software vendors from what I've seen though.

You can get one of these with a 6 core CPU and a K5000m: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np9570-clevo-p570wm-p-3595.html?wconfigure=yes. It runs off two 330W PSUs. :p

K5000m should be the same as a 680M, for shaders/bandwidth anyway.
Im still wanting the precision M4800, if I can get it reasonably with a 760M/765M/770M class GPU.

A 700 series in a Precision? Unlikely as an OEM.
