As far as I know, HDD on Vostro 3450 is accessible only after pretty much dismantling a lot of the notebook. I guess the same applies to Vostro 3350. This is the photo of Vostro 3550. As it's larger, I think HDD could be swapped with less difficulty than in its smaller brothers. But, naturally, I cannot confirm it as I don't own this thing yet.

Well I think I will go ahead with ordering my 3350 today and I can return my system if it's not what I wanted :)

imEric!, I'd love to hear your impressions of your 3350 when it arrives. I'm considering this unit myself, so your feedback would be valuable.

    Hi Folks,

I registered just for the purpose to give you comfort regarding the Vostro 3350.

My 3350 came today and I guarantee you, memory and harddisk is as easily accessible as the 3550 on the picture above. The area to be opened on the back is naturally smaller, but adding a second memory chip or changing the harddisk is truely a piece of cake.

I needed not more than 5 minutes to add a second 4 MB module from Kingston and change to an Intel SSD. And the system runs like a charm since.

So relax and have fun ;-)

This discovery makes it even more idiotic, that Dell gave the 3450 such an unfriendly design. The 3550 is fine and the 3350 as well. I can see no reason why the 3450 was forced into such an idiotic design. This is a very, very bad joke by Dell .....

I'd like to know about the 3350 battery wear as well, especially after the 3300's poor performance.

HariSeldon, thanks a lot for clarifying the HDD and RAM accessibility. Now here's something slightly more challenging. Under the keyboard there is a PCI-E slot for WWAN card (mobile broadband). I'd like to get the 3350 without the card and add it later, as I have it (Dell 5540) laying around. My concern is, whether 3350s coming without the card pre-installed still have the additional antennas. Would you mind popping of that keyboard and taking a picture of that slot? This is a deal-breaker for me...

EDIT: Nevermind... I had a chance put my hands on the 3350 without the WWAN card installed and not only were there no WWAN antennas, but also the SIM card slot was missing  Quite disappointing knowing that the Latitudes come WWAN ready regardless of the initial configuration.

Hi guys, I0m thinking about buying a Dell Vostro, either the 3350 or the 3450. I need a laptop that's portable and with great battery (I'll use it for Journalism graduate school). I'd like to be able to do some light videoediting if necessary so a dedicated videocard would be nice.

How's the Vostro for my needs? Is the display decent enough for watching movies or tv shows? (It will be my only computer so I need it for everything). What about the battery?

Sorry if I bother you but it's really hard to find reviews of this laptop.

    Thanks
