The default option with EPP purchases at my university is for a 3-year at home warranty. It is part of the contract and included at base price. :D

But if I put the D430 up against the E6400...yeah, figured out I'd stick with the 14". I just wish it were a pound heavier...I don't want to pay that much more for a 14.1"=>13.3" downgrade along with the WXGA+=>WXGA "downgrade." I needed that higher resolution this week for work, it was an eye opener.

Fritzy speakers, they just gave out. They offered to exchange me for a new E6400 since I didn't want a motherboard replacement in less than a week of ownership, but my gut instinct told me canceling/reordering would be best.

    Heavier or lighter?

It's the extra pixels that makes this size my preference since I spend too much of my time working at the computer.

Gah...lighter! I don't like that it is heavier than published, but oh well.

Why is canceling and reordering better than replacing?

Because then you get an entirely new 21 day period to return if you need to.

Plus, Dell has tried to send me refurb exchanges even when within the 21 days before so I no longer trust them when they assure me it will be new.

arg, I cannot believe that they will try to send you refurb exchanges. But then the E6400 just came out. I doubt that they would have too many refurbs to exchange anyway right?

Very true. But I still wanted my 21 days, and my new order gave me the opportunity to pick up a docking station AND the faster processor AND get a slightly bigger discount.

I got it for $1500 before tax, for the same configuration that Dell Small Business quotes at $1847. And I get $100 Dell dollars for my next purchase, which will be a monitor stand I want which is $99.

How can one tell if they do send a refurb? Is it "officially" a refurb, or would they deny it and claim it's brand new?

Sigh, I don't know whether I should attempt to return or replace. I am just afraid that Dell would charge me restocking fees or other charges of some sort if they don't deem my problem to be serious.
