I need to decide by 8PM tonight. I'll be back in about an hour or so to read all opinions...

Alright, I have four quotes for a replacement to my current E6400. Please see my signature for details on specs.

E4300 (similarly spec'd to current E6400, with docking station added in though, and $100 Dell Gift Card) => $1600
E6400 (as previously ordered, no dock yet, but get $100 Dell GC) => $1297 (same price and same configuration/order, which is one heck of a deal)
E6400 (as previously ordered, with dock, still get $100 GC) => $1416
    E6400 (upgrade to 2.53GHz P series, with dock, still get $100 GC) => $1500

All of that is before 7% tax.

I need the dock, I'm planning on buying it sooner or later. And regardless of if I get the dock now or later, I'll use the $100 towards the laptop-dock-lcd stand thing that will really help with desk space).

    So which one?

What about the impact on battery life?

Bottom line is the 2.26GHz->2.53GHz upgrade is about $80-85 with the rep I have.

With a 2.4 GHz processor, a light usage gave ~5 to 6 hrs with a 6-cell... So, you think it might be lower?? And since are going for a replacement, I would think its better to go for a higher processor (don't know if u cud get similar for less than 80-85 $ elsewhere!) But I would go for it...

Edit: Ah well, just noticed the 9 cell battery and I assume since u said similar spec'd, this new one would be with 9-cell too... so it should serve you well, don't u think so?

All the orders are 9-Cell batteries. But the higher frequency, combined with the 6M of cache v. 3M...I don't know if the power usage would be higher.

BTW, I upgraded to 2GB of RAM and 250GB hard drive after market....those are not included in the price for the system, since I already own them.

Yeah, I edited my prev post with the battery thing..

well.... for ur second part, I am bit confused now :p LOL.. (now I know why you probably had trouble deciding as well!)

Well, even with a 9-cell, I would guess u shud be able to squeeze out quiet a lot of usage time than normal.. at least ~4 to 4.5 hrs average.. may be even 5, idk.

Else I would think abt the 1416$ option.. u save on the processor, still get the dock and have a longer use time out of the battery.

$1371 for the 2.53GHz processor and no docking station. With the $100 card too.

^ So u thinking about getting a docking station separately? and get a 2.53 GHz instead??? thats also a nice option... Looks good at that price.. and I still feel you should go for the 2.53 GHz.. *for what its worth I, with a 2.6 T9500, get ~ 5 hrs normal usage like browsing, and a couple of office app's, with some music on the headphone, from the 9-cell*

Well, I'm planning on getting the dock and this now or later. So the $100 goes towards that either way. So it doesn't matter if I get the dock now or later, as it will cost the same regardless since I'm buying a few other things. Either $100 now or $100 later, same difference.
