As I understand it the RV740 core the ATI card is based on has a more advanced architecture so may have extra features that can be used by software programs. It certainly will run cooler as its on a 40nm process, I belive that a lot more programs are certified on nvidia which is why they can command a premium.

Finding a nvidia G92M vs ATI RV740 benchmark is proving harder than I though but i dont think there is a lot in it.

+1 on everything you said. If you aren't a heavy user of Adobe Premiere, then the plugin is probably a waste of money.

Ditto on the broken drivers and other issues. How easily we've forgotten about all the issues with the NVIDIA 3700M when it first came out. I've heard much fewer complaints on the ATI. For the price (unless you are a heavy Adobe Premiere user and intend to buy the accelerator plugin) I think the ATI is a better buy.

Although all video card benchmarks are a bit suspect (i.e., how much does the primary CPU and system config affect the final outcome (it does, significantly)), this link provides some quantitative comparison between the NVIDIA 3800M and the ATI M7740: http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-FirePro-M7740.18791.0.html

Edit: oops, the comparison was with the 3700M. No numbers for the 3800 yet.

Its not a good idea to always chase the "fastest." Next month the ATI 5870 will be the fastest. Will that make the NVIDIA 3800M junk? No, it will still do just as good a job as it ever did. Pick something that will do the job, for a decent price, and don't worry about being the biggest or baddest on the block, unless you have lots of money to throw away. (Easier said than done. :) This site incites a lot of desire for the fastest system.)

I was just curious if your M6500 fit, I had a hard time locating a gab for my
17” W700 that I had to bring the ThinkPad with me to the store to find a bag
that the W700 would fit in. it some point I just bit the bullet and bought
a Tumi, and the W700 just fit.

This whole thing got started over a comment that the theZoid had made,
about his (electrical supply) = Brick needing its own bag.

and then worldww3 made a comment about his messenger bag that he has
for his M6500. And I made a comment about my Tumi Flap Brief in the same post.
and as they say the rest is history, you can scroll throw the rest of
the post to see the story of the Brick, turning into workstation bag folklore. :)

I am not sure of how to deal with the rgb led. Its almost like there is too much contrast. Reds seems glowy as hell. I have made a couple of attempts to calibrate with a spyder 3 elite and am not happy. Fyi - full brightness is 300 nits. 5 down is 225. 5 up is 130. Right now am not confident that I can trust this lcd for photo editing.

It might be wide-gamut. That's a hotly discussed topic around the web, especially the display section of HardForum.
