Hi. Does anybody knows if the M6500 is compatible with the DA330PM111 (330w) charger?

Thinking of upgrading to this from my m4500. I have the 920xm which I think it's great but the gpu is lacking imo and I miss having the 16:10 screen. Worth trying to find a good one for ~200-250? I could swap cpus but I do want the fx3800m and 1920x1200.

Seems reasonable to get one in that price range. Most sellers seem to think their laptops are worth more than they should be, so you may have to talk them down into your price range. A quick ebay search shows a few around $380 with that quadro. Be sure to get one with a quad core CPU though so that you get 4 memory dimm slots. dual core processor m6500 only came with 2 memory slots on the motherboard. Of course, the condition of the laptop plays alot in the selling price. I wouldn't mind paying a little more to get one better condition without any dents or dings.

Really? Didn't know that. Not that I need 4 slots, but still..

Does the M6500 support overclocking on the Extreme edition or is it the same as my M4500 in that way?

I have the same processor as yours, the 920xm, but I never tried overclocking. I imagine it will be the same on the m6500 as it is on your m4500.

There is now a sudden surge of auctions on eBay selling the Quadro 5000M and they are not expensive. The cheapest one I saw was for $179.99, see here. Just a tad more dear than the ATI M7820. The M7820 is at least as fast as (if not faster) the FX3800M. However, the M7820 runs much much cooler than the FX3800M and 5000M.

IMHO, in terms of performance 5000M>M7820>FX3800M. However, if you look at the power consumption, M7820 (50W) > 5000M/FX3800M (Both 100W).

Hi guys. I have a question and not having spent any time with this thread, I would rather not spend the day going through all 629 pages. So, if my issue is in there somewhere, please bear with me. I have a M6500 and was given a Samsung SM841 mSata (256 GB). I am trying to install Win 10 and thus far I have had little luck. My research here has provided some clues. For example, the machine won't let you install Windows to the msata unless there's a HDD in the primary drive. I did that, but when rebooting after installation completed, the machine couldn't find the boot partition. I think my mistake was putting the original boot HDD back in the primary bay. I swapped that out with another drive with no boot partition and am trying it again. However, if anyone has gone through this and succeeded, I'd appreciate whatever help you can provide.

I haven't done a clean install, and I'm currently still on Win7, but the first obvious question is if you've enabled the mSATA in the BIOS boot order options. It's not enabled by default.

I did this a year or so ago, I tried and tried to do it without the hard drive in, but no-go (4600 OK, 6500 not ok). So I left a hard drive in and installed to the msata. That worked, fine. I had to leave the hard drive in since it contained the boot partition or something and is needed for boot. I installed in AHCI mode and have it set to boot from the mini-card.

Thanks for the quick replies. I got the furthest when I left the original boot disk in, but I need that for another machine. Someone back in the thread mentioned this as well, calling it weird and he is right. Adding to this pr
Thanks for the quick replies. Everything in the BIOS is set as it should be and the msata card is visible there. As SilentCal has stated, I found out that there has to be a HDD in the primary bay in order for Windows to even find the msata to install to. I read something previously while searching that another user said that his M6500 was weird because of that and my situation is even stranger. Without the original boot disk in place, the install terminates after the first reboot with an error message that the boot loader could not be found. Trying to repair that problem brings about another error message saying that no boot partition could be found. These suggest that as Windows installs on the msata, for some reason it doesn't create a boot partition which is odd by itself. However, further complicating my situation is that when I re-enter BIOS I find the boot order changed from what I set it at with the msata moved all the way to the bottom of the boot list even though I elevated to the first position. Worse, all of a sudden my mouse doesn't work on any of the BIOS screens which is a real *****.

So, SilentCal, how can it boot from the msata if there is no boot partition? If the original boot disk is needed, when the machine boots isn't that the active OS disk and thus can not be touched, erased, to be used for data?

Hope someone else might have managed a better way.
