Hello, I'm having issues with the GPU fan on my M6500 (it reports an average of 5 RPMs under load...:).

Do I need to replace the whole heat sink or can I just replace the fan? I've seen many listings of CPU fan compatible with M6500 on eBay but none for GPU...are they the same?

    Thanks!

Nope. Storage drive is just 1 partition, the mSATA has a 100 MB partition and the rest is OS partition (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition). I'm running AHCI in BIOS, by the way.

Ok, I guess I will have to invest some time and try both DZ's RAID BIOS change and your cloning method to see which one works for me and seems the best performing. Thanks guys!

Well, it looks like at least a part of my problem is that I have a sick machine. Not sure whats going on, but the facts are that my 6500 will not recognize the SM841 in any mode, ATA, AHCI, or RAID without a HDD in the primary bay. Without a HDD in that bay, the installed msata just disappears. On top of that, I have begun to have a problem just getting into the BIOS setup at all. Without a HDD in the primary bay the machine boots to a black screen and nothing more happens. As I mentioned before, sometime back and I'm not sure is before or after I installed the 841 msata, the mouse stopped working in the BIOS setup.

So, what exactly is happening is beyond me. I don't know if the 841 is bad somehow, the MB has developed issues, the firmware has somehow become corrupted and perhaps requires the BIOS to be re-flashed with the last update which I'm afraid to do and make matters worse, or even if it is some sort of spurious memory issue which I know from experience can sometime cause the machine to misbehave in strange ways.

Any ideas would be appreciated although I think I'm beginning to be a pain in the a** with this thing!

That's odd. Looks like a compatibility issue. The M6500 is quite picky with the mSATA drives.

The one I had was a Crucial M500 and it worked.

I suppose that is the problem. Like some one else who wrote about it, Samsung Magician recognizes the drive, but most of the utility features are unavailable. However, the benchmark utility says the drive is getting sequential read\writes in the 280's which is about half of what I would have expected. Must be my particular unit because the 840 EVO didn't fare much better, though the random read\writes were significantly better than the SM841.

Unless a Crucial M500 falls from the sky, I'll just have to make do with what I have.
