Hey guys,

Not sure if it is just me but after the latest Windows 7 Service Pack update, my M6500's Dell Wireless 1510 card is refusing to connect to any network. I can detect the Wifi networks just fine and even get to the point of entering the network security key. However, after the waiting icon in the desktop tray, there will be a popup message saying, "Windows was unable to connect to [network name]". It happens to all Wifi networks I am trying to connect to. I ran the diagnostics in Dell's DW WLAN Card utility to test the control registers, sprom format validation, memory, interrupt and DMA & Loopback but everything passes just fine. Re-downloaded the 1510 drivers from Dell and reinstalled them without avail. Anybody know what is going on or is experiencing something similar? Thanks!

Getting ready to sell my M6500, wondering how I can reset everything to factory preset? and will it literally be like when I first switched it on for the buyer, when it goes through setup and everything?

Also, could anyone tell me how I transfer extended warranty and accident coverage to new owner please?

Thanks!

The 6500 has a displayport which supports up to a 30inch screen...my 40 inch flat screen has an HDMI port...if I got an adapter would I be able to output both video and audio through the same cable to my 40 inch TV, without loss of quality?

It's resolution, not size, that matters.

As long as the 40" display in question is a 1920x1080 resolution display max, it'll work with the single cable.

The Displayport "++" output on the right side of the 6500 will actually do both audio and video (at least for the nvidia cards) to HDMI inputs as long as the resolution of the display isn't over 1080p (1920x1080). Any higher and the card disables the audio passthrough and you're stuck with only a video signal being sent.

This screws those of us with high resolution monitors (like my u3011), but works fine if you're hooking this up to a "good old fashioned" HDTV.

You can buy Displayport <-> HDMI cables online. Have one myself I've used with my 60" Kuro and it works fine. Hope this helps.

I would love to add a Seagate ST91000640NS to the 2nd drive bay of my brand new m6500, but it looks like these enterprise-grade drives don't fit most laptops according to reviews here: Newegg.com - Seagate Constellation.2 ST91000640NS 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache 2.5" SATA 6.0Gb/s Enterprise-class Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Has anyone tried to fit this drive to an m6500? The reviews seem to say the drive is too thick to fit in some laptops, but the m6500 is a very big laptop so I'm hoping its drive bay might accommodate this drive.

I don't intend to run the system on battery, so I don't care if it wastes power. But I do care if it overwhelms or overheats the m6500 power supply.

Anyone know if it'll fit? If not, anyone care to venture a guess?

Thanks,
xPat

It won't. Both HDD caddies in the M6500 only will fit the stand thickness drives. Not even the 1 TB Samsung HDD's can even fit in the M6500.

My sister just bought her first laptop in about 5 or 6 yrs. She ordered an M6500 from the outlet.

i7-720qm ATI firepro m7740 WUXGA RGB and 8GB, etc.

This is a huge upgrade over her current/old laptop which is a 2005 or 2006 Dell Inspiron 6000 (which still works great by the way).

Reason she decided on this one was that she wanted a 16:10 17" screen with room to upgrade later (drives, memory, processor) if she needed to.

The other machine she was looking at getting was an i7 quad Macbook Pro 17". But that would've been at least another $1000 so that made her choice a little easier.

This is basically a machine she will use for remoteing in from home to the office and also for running Oracle database and Java development tools from.

I believe she got a good deal on a great machine with lots of room to grow.
