Uhm, wait a minute, that's interesting: When you say recent date of manufacture, do you mean the LCD screen or the Eye One? I checked the data of my LG RGB LED with PC Wizard 2010 and "Manufacture" says 2009!!!!! Did I get an old LCD that was hanging around in a warehouse for ages (got my new M6500 just 3 weeks ago) or do all LG displays say 2009???? What was the date of the units you checked out?

Otherwise, I got similar results. Yes, the RGB LED is a very capable screen with fantastically wide gamut, and yes, even the cheaper Eye One D2 gives decent profiles on it. In *color managed apps* it looks virtually identical (in NTSC mode) to the really nice I1D2 calibrated wide gamut Dell U2711.

But I do lots of other things than just photo editing on my M6500. As the one dimensional graphics card LUT is corrected "OS wide" in win7, the grays and gamma are prefect even in all the other *non* color managed apps. *But* the colors are extremely over-saturated in all these non color aware apps (and the entire desktop) that do not care about the full 3D LUT in the display profile!

A lot of people appear to be unaware of this problem in Windows. This is not a fault of the screen but the lack of a usable gamut limited sRGB mode you can switch to if you must avoid the wide gamut in these apps! This is why serious LCDs like the U2711, NECs etc. have a good sRGB mode as an alternative.

And this is why I have tried to tweak an alternative (to the one in the Dell CP) sRGB mode based on the NTSC profile.

You might want to check your system to see if the additional bracket is included first. Many people have reported that the additional bracket (and required screws, etc.) have been included in the space for the second HD, even though they didn't order a 2nd hard drive from Dell.

I thought I would need to order the bracket too, but I checked my system when I received it, and the additional bracket was stored in the position where the 2nd hard drive would go.

Despite the new M6600, I am considering buying a refurbished M6500 from the Dell Outlet store. While I would like not to regress in electronics, I like 16:10 screen aspect ratios even more.

This thread has had lots of discussions about the number of DIMM slots in M6500s. I think I'm accurate in summing up the discussions as follows: Short of ordering a system with 4 DIMMs, you can "guarantee" that you get 4 DIMM slots if you order a quad-core processor. However, it has been shown that a quad-core processor WILL work in a system with only 2 DIMM slots.

My question is this: Does the same "guarantee" hold if I order a refurbed M6500, or are all bets off because it's not new?

"Pretty pricey and no availability date on it at this time. If you are interested in getting it, just let me know and I will call our parts dept to see if they can tell me when it will be available."

This is completely normal for the M6500 series. AW M17x recently got a newer revision RGBLED that was made in 2010, but no difference was found.

Choose one with quadcore and you should get 4 slots. :)

I did that exact same thing. The outlet is a little picked over right now but you can get some great deals if you keep your eye open. My first system was a scratch and dent that I sent back (lid looked like someone hit with a hammer in a number of places). they replaced it with a refurb that has been flawless so far. Ended up with the following for $1180 including 7.5% tax:

    840 proc
    ATI 7820
    500GB HD
    12 GB ram
    WUXA screen

You also get the same 3 year next business day on-site service as the new models.

Yeah I had it with both refurbs. I updated sound drivers from dell's website and it fixed it on both.

Also the outlet is completely drained at the moment. I haven't checked late at night around 3-4 am eastern when they update usually, but every morning when I look it seems like there is no new stock. dont forget about 15% off coupon if you do order

I assume this freezing issue is only for the nVidia(particularly 2800/3800m) equipped machines?
