I know for this, but with installing Synaptics driver you cannot use Jogshuttle function ... so there is obviously a "design failure" in Dell drivers ...

I only have problems after installing software and rebooting. Sometimes the touchpad [with Dell drivers] is not loaded correctly so that no gestures, not even tapping works.

It seems to me that bios A06 cures that a bit better.
It is not completely gone, but when this happens, doing a hibernate/resume has always brought back the touchpad functions.

I tried the latest synaptics driver as well and that was unpleasant as the backlight of the jog shuttle was always on with that driver.

So for me the dell touchpad driver and occasional hibernate/resumes are the better option.

    Hi all,

I got my M6500 in 04/2010 and I'm still happy (despite freezes).
Since I want to upgrade it I found out that I still have an unused mini PCIe slot inside (labeled "FCM").
Now I'd like to know if it's possible to use the Flash Cache Module as a normal drive (= 3rd HDD). I would stick a 32 or 64GB minPCIe-SSD in but don't use it for "ReadyBoost" or "ReadyDrive".
Does this work (in Win7 64bit)?

    Tnx in advance,
    Alex

Edit: Found the other thread dealing with this subject. Seems to be a problem without having the first 2 HDDs in a RAID (which I don't have).

The mini PCIe slot is for mSata devices like the new Intel mSata 310 SSD.
I am interested in Renice X3 mSata SSD. Both have a length of 50mm to fit in the m6500. The Intel with only 80GB is a bit small and not too fast in my view and for the Renice I am still missing reviews.

According to your signature you use both hdd slots for different drives. The problem with mSata is that you can either use only one hdd slot or have to put them in RAID mode. Not sure if combining an SDD and HDD as a RAID drive gives you pleasant performance.

So with an mSata SSD you will likely need to either use two HDDs or SSDs of the same size in your hdd slots.

x64 or x86 makes no difference in this case.

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, I am targeting all my LCDs to 120cd/m² too. One difference could be the ATI card. Maybe it has more saturated colors in the neutral position. Or maybe my eyes are wide gamut :), we all see colors a little differently.

As you have a lot of experience regarding the LG screens: This is my first RGB-LED screen, and I was surprised that a strange effect takes place when I move my eyes rapidly around on a screen with dark background and bright elements on it (like window borders or icons on a black desktop). I see a strange rainbow flicker during the eye movement.

I guess that the RGB-LEDs are pulsed? It doesn't bother me much, but is this typical for LG displays or probably for any RGB-LED screen????

    Thanks in advance!

Oh, one more question: But I guess you can't see the 2010 date in PC Wizard 2010 "Manufacture" date, as all M6500 LG screens say "Manufacture" 2009?

    Hi DebGuy,

So,... are you capable of keep working comfortably (with your hands on the keyboard area) while long simulations are running?

    Many thanks,

I think my 3800M is a freeze magnet. I wonder if I should get it replaced or just get another card in M7820...

I feel absolutely no change in temperature on the top side of the laptop, even with all 4 cores (incl. HT) on full usage. The highest CPU temperature I ever had (without intentionally messing with the fan setup) was like 71 or 72°C and I felt no change on the keyboard. The only external part that gets hot is the docking port - which sometimes seems to me like an auxiliary heat pipe.
The 2-core-job I mentioned is still running fine and apart from a constantly blowing fan on level 1 there is no change in the behavior of my M6500 compared to idle situations.

Actually, I haven't had a single freeze or bsod caused by my M6500 with M7820 even though it's packed with all sorts of unusual software and has been under heavy use since I received it almost 4 weeks ago.

The only 4 freezes/bsod I've had so far were caused by a bad driver and stupid backup software.
