My screen is slightly uneven. If it is closed the right display corner touches the casing while the left corner as a gap of 2mm. But that's far from what you encounter. I have no problem with the latches, and as soon as I put it into my backpack the gap is closed completely by the pressure.

Anyone know why Dell is not offering the Complete Care warranty for M6500 in their outlet? It's available for other models.

    Thank you

    Hello,

Can anyone confirm that the palm rest is plastic?

At first, I thought the sides are also plastic, but when I tried to open it I scratched a little and it turned out the sides are part of the roll-case. Now I'm not quite sure if the palm rest is plastic.

Anyway, mine came last Friday, and it's flawless. The only bad thing about this is the screws - they seem to have very soft material as my driver has scratched almost everyone I touched. It's a good way to tell no one messed with it before :D

Well, I scratched one of the sides next to the hinge cover when I tried to open it, and underneath the paint it is metal.

Argghhh, this is getting really frustrating. Does anyone use AutoCAD 2011 with a similar specced M6500 as the one I've listed in my signature. Random seeming mouse lag makes it pretty much unusable. I'm so peeved, I spent a small fortune on this laptop and it doesn't even work as good as my 5 year old desktop that cost 1/5 of the price! This is a serious issue as the M6500 is sold as a computer for CAD professionals, yet it doesn't seem to be compatable with AutoCAD 2011 - pretty much the CAD standard!!!

I will bring up a file (say a 10 Mb digimap of a town) and everything is silky smooth. I move around map, am about to do some work and the mouse pointer dissappears and does the jumping around the screen seconds behind where I've moved it thing, this can eventually result in everything coming to a standstill.

If I run other programs in the background they function the same and there appears no particular strain on the cores. Seems to me it must be a problem between the software and the graphics card? I have installed the supplied drivers, and the latest drivers, and the one advised on the ATI site, same thing with each of them. I've even uninstalled my catalyst control centre which I now cannot get back as it's not on the resource CD I paid an extra £5 for and the laptop version doesn't seem to be available online.

I feel DELL have sold me a real dud here, I'll certainly be putting people off buying DELL in the architecture school I'm studying!

Hate to say it, but Autocad is probably failing you and not Dell.

    Google "autocad 2011 mouse lag"

Many posts going back to July where this is happening on many types of systems. This is not isolated to the M6500. It is happening on Macs as well. It is a software issue that Autodesk have acknowledged.

Most people are able to fix the issue by turning off dynamic input.

Other fixes put forth on Autocad support forums - Don't use pointer acceleration. Don't use smart pointer. Don't use mouse trails. Set all scroll increments to 1 line.

I am assuming that you installed the Autocad 1.1 Update that came out Oct 7?

Hopefully you will be able to your issues fixed. Your most likely on the wrong forum for the best advice though. Good luck!

Yea, I think I agree, although Dell and Autodesk should be working together. So far as I can understand they consider the M6500 a certified workstation?

What is an SSD mini card? Are you trying to replace your HDD with an SSD?

I can't seem to find an answer to my question anywhere. Was the Silver M6500 ever offered with the Edge to Edge display?
