Do any of your M6500 units hang at startup with a black screen at times? Mine does on some random occasions and I need to hold down the power button for a few seconds (where the fan will seem to sound a bit more loudly) to shut it down and start it up again without any problems. Any idea why?

Seen it or something similar happen on mine from time to time as well. Occasionally it'll even happen before the UAPP stuff kicks in to request a fingerprint scan.

That specifically leads me to believe that it's the nvidia 3800's issue. Another interesting thing is that depending on what step it is (fingerprint, desktop locked, or initial login), I can almost always get logged in to the desktop by "flying blindly", at which point the display is on. Give that a try before a hard reboot next time.

Happens for me with ATI m7740 as well - quite seldom.

I do not have a finger print reader, so it happens without as well.
I waited a few seconds when the screen stayed black but neither Ctrl+Alt+Del nor Num-Lock did do anything in my case.

I'm basically set on buying a M6500 considering my main laptop's MOBO might be damaged...

I do have a few concerns though-

    1. Dell .. in my experience is very unreliable (Dell computers that is, support is good, that is if youre under their warranty - my laptop was damaged 5 days after warranty...)

    2. I hear the M6500's RGBLED screen is, for a lack of a better word, crappy. Is this true?

    3. Startup time?

    4. most importantly, how does the graphics card fair for gaming? I'll probably be casually gaming, nothing like crysis on high or anything like that, but id still like to have a laptop that is capable of at least the medium-end games...

So is quadro or the firepro better? My friend told me quadro is more for rendering and graphics related to design, etc like autodesk, cad, basically engineering type stuff. is this true?

When I open ATI catalyst I have all the options available listed twice, both the catagories and the choices within the catagories, this doesn't seem quite right, any idea why it's happening?

Has anyone received their notebook with an uneven screen? I mean the screen only latches on to the clip on one side. I just received the notebook 5 days ago and I'm debating whether to return it.

    1. I've had an overall positive experience with Dell.

    2. The screen is wonderful, you'll need to spend some time adjusting the reds and greens though.

    3. Around 10 seconds

    4. The GPU provided on the M6500 is adequate for your gaming needs
