So now we're at the point to spread FUD instead of citing sources?

Because this someone might want to have reliable information before he spends $10k

All we know at the moment is that Dell says that it does. There hasn't been brought a single evidence, which would be very easy to do if one really wanted.
I don't blame havoctex for lying, the only thing I say is that that there is a discrepancy between what Dell claims and what the BIOS reports. Depending on what is the truth this should be fixed by either canceling the 32GB option or admitting that there is a bug in the BIOS and fixing it in the next release.

    Which is the other one?

No idea what you could even possibly be talking about.

So, let me get this straight: You feel that the output of that little program you found is more reliable than Dell selling you this machine, with the implicit assurance that it will work with the memory they are selling it with, backed up by their warranty and support, let alone their reputation? Are you for real?

You do understand that, if Dell's claims turn out to be untrue, it's Dell's money that's on the line, who will have to process a return and associated refund, right?

Yep, which is a hell of a lot.

Now you are accusing this guy of lying? What do you base this quite serious charge on? Let me be frank: I think you need help. Other than that, you know nothing about what the BIOS reports; all you know is what your little program says.

Your code may not report its data correctly. Ever thought of that?

    I suspected that.

I consider the output of Dells BIOS a more reliable source than the marketing phrases if that's what you're asking for.

Ok, I know my English skills are far from being perfect, but I didn't realize that they were that bad. I guess you're right. I really need help.

I just had a look at it, it does nothing else but read out the BIOS registers. It does no manipulation. That's the nice thing about Open Source. You can go and find out yourself. You may want to have a look at it too (dmidecode.c lines 1993 and 3268). It's plain C code, not that complicated.

Nice work cutting the meat out of what I said. There's nothing to be added to it.

In this country accusing somebody of lying, with no evidence of any kind, is considered extremely poor form. I suspect things aren't all that different where you live. As for English education: The word "lying" refers to the act of knowingly promoting a falsehood. Even if it turned out that havoctex was wrong, you have absolutely no evidence, of any kind, that havoctex wrote anything he wrote while being aware of it being false. If I was havoc, I would demand an apology, but that's between you and him.

God almighty, I thought I had explained to you what a glorious waste of time that would be. Here, let me spell it out for you: Nobody, but absolutely nobody, gives a rat's @ss about this "issue" of yours. All that matters is if the machine works as advertised. I am confident it does, but unfortunately I don't have the spare change lying around right now to give you proof positive. Unless havoctex feels that satisfying your inquiry is important enough to send a fully decked-out M6500 my way so I can test it for you...

You may alrady have done this.
First check BIOS setting General -> Boot Sequence, USB Strage device and CD/DVD/CD R/W are CHECKED to enabled it. Secondly, check the Boot sequence at the right side of the screen. That boot priority sequence can be changed. I hope this helps.

Yes, I already did this as well as hit F12 for boot options and selected it there. I think the machine is toast. I tried using the Win reinstallation DVD, and it hangs at the Starting Windows after loading files. Thanks for all your help ... I am going to exchange it for a bootable machine.

Ok, now you are saying that I'm lying. I think you have gone to far buddy. Not sure how you come to that conclusion but just so you know I have never lied to anyone on this forum. Go back and see. If I don't know the answer to something I state that I don't and will get them an answer. I really think you went to far on this one. :( Not cool.

As for the M6500, I don't know what else to tell you and your little program. The M6500 is a shipping system that can currently be configured with 32GB of system memory. We are currently shipping this configuration to customers. It works. I just went to my lab and loaded a system up with 32GB of memory so that I could see it running myself. Works great!! :) It is running on A04 BIOS. I don't think that you seriously are thinking of purchasing this much memory, I think you are just here to pick a fight.

Dell would never advertise, or allow a customer to purchase, a configuration that we did not stand behind. A customer can return the system back for a full refund if they are not satisified.

Again, the proof has been supplied, we are shipping this configuration to customers TODAY. Let it go...

I don't think the rest of us believe you are lying.....I think we have the stereotypical behavior here of a classic, "know it all"....nothing more.

I love the backlit keyboard. It turns off after about 5-10 seconds though. Is there any way to increase this so it stays on longer?

If you have Dell System Manager loaded you can set the time there.
