I hate to hear that you were not able to get everything worked out. My M6500 has 6 months on it and has been flawless overall.

That Z800 is a monster desktop. Don't even want to know what your day job/hobbies are that require one of those at home :)

Wild. Had no issues with the fresh 7 install to my C300 immediately after getting it in the machine. I set it to AHCI before attempting the install.

Obvious, but worth checking: if you switch back to AHCI, make sure your boot order has the new SSD higher in the list than the old platter drive. I had actually done a physical swap on mine before I realized the boot option was there to handle that. "Duh".

By the way, the DVD I installed a fresh Win7 64 OS from was black, not red. Not sure if that's indicative of anything. Label says "Re installation DVD Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate". It was the operating system only... bloatware was on other discs in the package.

Want Premiere pro CS5 / Mercury Playback for your non-compatible graphics card? Here's the solution:

How to make Premiere CS5 work with possibly all CUDA 200 GPUs
    ________________________________________
    Here are the steps:

Step 1. Go to the Premiere CS5 installation folder.
Step 2. Find the file "GPUSniffer.exe" and run it in a command prompt (cmd.exe). You should see something like that:
    ---------------------
    Device: 00000000001D4208 has video RAM(MB): 896
    Device: 00000000001D4208 has video RAM(MB): 896
    Vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
    Renderer string: GeForce GTX 295/PCI/SSE2
    Version string: 3.0.0

OpenGL version as determined by Extensionator...
    OpenGL Version 2.0
    Supports shaders!
    Supports BGRA -> BGRA Shader
    Supports VUYA Shader -> BGRA
    Supports UYVY/YUYV ->BGRA Shader
Supports YUV 4:2:0 -> BGRA Shader
    Testing for CUDA support...
    Found 2 devices supporting CUDA.
    CUDA Device # 0 properties -
    CUDA device details:
Name: GeForce GTX 295 Compute capability: 1.3
    Total Video Memory: 877MB
    CUDA Device # 1 properties -
    CUDA device details:
Name: GeForce GTX 295 Compute capability: 1.3
    Total Video Memory: 877MB
CUDA Device # 0 not choosen because it did not match the named list of cards
    Completed shader test!
    Internal return value: 7
    ----------------------------

If you look at the last line it says the CUDA device is not chosen because it's not in the named list of card. That's fine. Let's add it.

Step 3. Find the file: "cuda_supported_cards.txt" and edit it and add your card (take the name from the line: CUDA device details: Name: GeForce GTX 295 Compute capability: 1.3

So in my case the name to add is: GeForce GTX 295

Step 4. Save that file and we're almost ready.

Step 5. Go to your Nvidia Driver control panel (im using the latest 197.45) under "Manage 3D Settings", Click "Add" and browse to your Premiere CS5 install directory and select the executable file: "Adobe Premiere Pro.exe"

Step 6. In the field "multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration" switch from "multiple display performance mode" to "compatibility performance mode"

Step 7. That's it. Boot Premiere and go to your project setting / general and activate CUDA

Tried it and tested, unbelievable speed comes from this little trick. Will try a GT9800 as well. Thought the people in here using CS5 could use this high performance tip.

    Best,
    Kaliya

Fresh Install....that's my problem, ssd is in FIRST slot....wonder if I swap the SSD to the second slot and 7200rpm to the first slot then changed bioss to AHCI and boot sequence for second slot? Windows is installed right now on SSD in first slot with BIOS to set RAID, raid set to NON RAID....?

Spill....but was your SSD in the first drive bay? Ygohome had no problems either but SSD was in SEcond drive bay....I'm getting ready to swap mine now and set BIOS to boot off SSD in 2nd drive bay. and change BIOS to AHCI...if it doesn't work, I'll reinstall to SSD in drive bay 2....factory seems to send out SSD in the 2nd bay when one is mixed with a platter....must be reason...

Wow...are you trying to create a hologram of a perfect pornstar to run on your holodeck? :D Hey man, they only be computers, get whatever works for you. I'm pretty much sold on Precisions for my uses though. Lenovo's don't do much for me....just because you can hit someone over the head with one and they'll still turn on, isn't enough for me ....lol I'd probably go Elitebook if I had to leave the Precisions.

Is it confirmed that TRIM will not work on an SSD where BIOS is set to RAID but raid is set to NON RAID disks?

The answer to this is YES for now....I'm reinstalling Windows to my SSD located in Drive Bay 2, my Spindle Drive is in Drive Bay 1....tech explained why it should work this way....for now....let's see if it does in a few....haha

I have asked this but I want to make sure. The specs on the website still say USB 2.0(x4) ports.

The Covet no longer has its own tech. spec page. Does it come with USB 3.0? I still can't get 100% confirmation and I just want to make sure the COVET does come with USB 3.0 standard. Sorry to have to ask this again. I still haven't gotten my answer from my Dell Rep.

For the Wireless - she did give me an option I didn't see on the site.

    Wireless LAN (802.11):
    Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 802.11a/b/g/n Half Mini Card

And for the GOBI(Mobile BroadBand) she sent me a GOBI 2000 which is supposed to support all three providers? Verizon, Sprint and AT&T? I don't have to specify?
Built-in Gobi™ 2000 with GPS supports Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T

    DW5620

    Just want to make sure.

I have to do a like for like on my system in return for my old one. So I can't upgrade over what they I have or even add on until afterwards.

    Thanks for the help!

Yes. It's in the first bay (one under the battery). I purchased the machine with a single 7200rpm drive. When the SSD came in, I swapped the SSD into that space (hadn't thought to look for boot order options for the drives before I did) and moved the former platter based boot drive to the side bay.

    Zero issues with AHCI.
