    Hi again,

Looks like I'll be reinstalling the OS... this time with AHCI mode turned on in the BIOS prior to beginning that.

FYI, if anyone is curious as to what a chat session is like with Dell support on this subject... here you go :)

Actually I'm talking about the machines available right now. If you go to the dell site and look at the options for the Covet under the Bluetooth symbol. You can not pick anything except the Wireless Pan Dell 420 Mini UWB card. Which from what I was told yesterday by the Dell Specialist Group for Dell M6500's is that there is not a card available that comes with the Covet that will provide Bluetooth Connection. He also tried on in the lab and was not able to connect to a Bluetooth device either.

I think they are just all messed up because the First covet I had I could have sworn I connected my Bluetooth mouse to it but the rep kept telling me I was not able to.

If that is the case, then they will be giving me a wireless mouse to replace my Bluetooth mouse because I'm not buying another mouse because Dell doen't know how to represent what is going into their machines.

Not sure about the situation in Canada, but in European trains all the wall sockets are limited to an output of 90W (older ones even 60W). I guess it's the same for planes.
The M6500 needs some 30W when idle and I brought it up to some 70W with full load on the 820QM CPU. Not to mention the graphics card. Due to this power consumption the battery has a very high capacity. So charging it might take very long.

Plus, it's huge, especially when you have limited space like in a car or plane. I wouldn't like to sit next to you in the plane.I guess the M4500 would be a better choice in this scenario.

I've noticed that they keep moving the wireless around - I couldn't, and still wouldn't be able to buy 3G here for example, although UWB is now avaialble.

All I can tell you that all of mine had (had, yes - I'm going elsewhere) Bluetooth. It wasn't a configurable option - it was expressly included in the standard Covet build, mentioned along with E2E, USB3 & Clarkdale.

Are you leaving the m6500 realm? Did I read that right? I thought I've followed this thread from the beginning.....

Any update on the Bios update situation? They pulled A03 and still have no updates for A02?

And whats the status of a lower latency IDT Audio driver designed specifically for the M6500?

I was thinking the same thing re BIOS....they are due NOW for A04....for my m4400 BIOS updates were regular. They are on A22 now for that one.

I'm doing a 'clean' install of win 7 64 bit on an intel SSD....using the red disk that I got from DELL....the SSD was recognized....first it said it was loading files with the progress bar which seemed to take around 15 minutes and seemed normal....now it's been on 'Starting Windows' with the pulsating logo for about 15 minutes maybe....

Q: Does this CD do a clean install or merely copy an image? I haven't installed Windows in a while but don't remember it taking this long....CD light is on, HD activity light has been off...

    Something wrong here? thanks

PS: I removed my 500 gig platter drive, and will install after Windows is installed, then format it.

Yup. It was a tough decision, because I like the M6500 - if you get one (or more) without problems. I'm also taking the opportunity to shuffle some systems around - I find the i7-920xm / 3800m combo just isn't powerful enough even for casual noodling around at home, and I think my DTR / all-laptop-at-home experiment was not working out. I'll be buying a fewer number of Elitebooks, still keeping one DTR at home but have more workstations on the way - along with a single-Gulftown variant of the Z800 for home.

Can I get verification as I have not heard back from my REP yet. I am going with Covet unless the delays are stupidly long.

I just want to make sure that I will get USB 3.0 with the Covet as a standard. I hate it when Dell can't seem to get it right with the USB info. The Carbide Silver says USB 3.0 and the Covet does not.

Do I have to make a special request for the Covet to get the USB 3.0 or it will just come with it now as standard on orders placed in the next couple of days?

    Thanks for the clarification!
