Same in Dell Singapore. Although all options are suggested on the promo page the web shop configurator only offers the low end i7-720QM CPU ,no ATI GPU available, no Covet option. Also very limited (small) SSD drive options are available. Amazing really since most of this stuff is made in Asia yet you can only order it in the USA.

Accepting that there are a few country specific options like the plug that goes in the wall and the currency sign on the keyboard I dont get why the same configurator isnt offered everywhere. Also given that US warranties are generally much more comprehensive and that the labour costs are cheaper in Asia the prices ought to be lower but they arent.

Grumpy because I cant order what i want.

Anyone seen a comparison of the ATI M7740 and Nvidia FX3800M anywhere ?

Like most people I hanker after the 3800M because its the most expensive :) but I have no idea what the performance difference would be like. Specifically i'm interested in using for Maya and video editing and need it to be mobile because i've worked in 3 different countries this year and shipping a desktop between countries is almost impossible for less than the cost of a desktop.

Here's a good comparison although the 3800M lacks benchmarks, it's been described as a slightly enhanced overclocked 280M:

It's currently the fastest notebook GPU on the market.

As far as SSD goes, you're probably better off ordering it via 3rd party and saving the price gouging that Dell does with memory and SSD.

From DELL UK using 10% voucher posted earlier

    £ 2,200.72 ex VAT ( 3,526.53 USD )
    £ 2,530.83 inc VAT ( 4,055.47 USD )

But I'm VAT registered so I get VAT back which is cool

Hi there I am VAT registered too.

Did you have to pay the VAT up front (£2530.3) -or could you just pay the excl VAT price (£2200.72)?

    Cheers

Unless your VAT exempt they charge VAT ie 2530 paid then you have the claim it back from IR. Which was rather annoying...

It's sad I have to wait another 5 hours when the FedEx facility is literally right around the corner, less than 1/8th a mile away. Anyhow I'll get some pics up tonight :)

I ordered an 1.7ghz 3800M with 1333mhz memory. I can provide benchmarks, just give a list of which the public wants and which programs to use.
