I also wish to change the display from (1600 x 900) HD+ to FHD IPS. I asked dell about screen change and I here is their response:

"Notebook screens are coded in setup by EDID - only those screens that Dell has coded into the BIOS table are guaranteed to work. Anything else may display nothing until Windows loads (i.e., no BIOS/UEFI page), may not work completely (artifacts, split or corrupted screens) -- or may not work at all.

You need a screen known to have shipped with this model system".

 

That might be true, so I would recommend searching for a dell technician in your area. They are super knowledgeable about all hardware related issues.

I recently bought a Dell Latitiude E5470 with non backlit (no pointing stick) keyboard. Have you faced any issues so far with the backlit keyboard you bought from ebay. I posted a question regarding backlit keyboard compatibility and this is what one of their engineers said.

"Apologies, but unless the computer was originally ordered from the factory with a backlit keyboard, the circuitry will not be there to operate the lights."

 

I have contacted dell and they have warranty transfer page which asks you to give as much info as possible on previous owner. I contacted guy who sold me the laptop and he does not know any info about original owner, says it was to long ago. Also I have no info on him other than nickname on auction site. I visited his place but not sure about address since we met in town and then he drove us to his place. So I have nothing, I gave up on warranty pursuit.

As for battery, this is model numbers I got from dell.

66Whr batteries are only for the verson with discrete graphics. It can't fit physically into case of Intel graphics model. So I will go with 47whr battery. But problem is I can't find any, there are "gently used" ones on part people or on ebay as "new(other)" which probably means with defects. I can't find brand new anywhere. There is 52Whr battery for e5450 that is also listed on ebay as compatible with e5470 but Dell person told me it might not work. But this dell person looks not very expert to me since he proposed me 66Whr and latter I found out by looking at picture that there is no way to fit.

If I succeed with the battery uprade, I next do NVME SSD

And after that i'll probably buy a docking station and that is all I need in terms of hardware upgrades.

 

About the screens, b140han01.3 works wonderfully for me. My laptop came with eyesore BOA screen which was fullhd but had brightness of thousand sun and cold colors, and probably pwm as my eyes hurt when I put it on minimum brightness. So I tried both AUO b140han01.3 and b140han01.2 and decide to go with 1.3 since it did not have dead pixels and white spots, but 1.2 is fine too as long asa it does not have defects.

If your laptop came with 900p, chances are you have dual channel EDP cable, so you could swap easily. Not sure if you got 768p, that might be single channel cable.

 

I would just make up all that previous owner info as you have nothing to lose (they will void your warranty?).

 

Have you considered getting a decent power bank instead of chasing the battery?


Oh, and please do report on NVME SSD, I am interested.

 

What if that seller sold me stolen laptop? Then I will get police on my doorstep and probably lose the laptop.

About power brick, I don't like clutter, I don't even use mouse, I use touchpad, and sometimes work standing up and one handed. That is because I sometimes have to work long hours and sitting at one spot it boring. Power bank is ok for travel, I might get it, but battery need to be good also.

I will report on NVMe, as soon as I fix battery problem I am getting the 512GB NVME, and probably also docking station so I can easily plug monitors.

 

It's up to you, I would take my chances. Also, I would not be comfortable moving around with a stolen item, so I'd like to know if it's legit. Your call.
