You can never have enough RAM. I'd just go to 32gb, but if concerned, you could just get a 16GB kit. Or give up on dual-channel, and go to 24GB. :D

I am. I've got the same Transcend MTS400 most of us have gotten, the 256gb. It's not a barn-burned, but it's not by any means slow; I've got one of the better "value" 1TB drives in my main slot (Sandisk X400) and they run about the same speed.

I hate that Dell uses Fedex for shipping. They are so slow. My 5470 went out Tuesday morning and it won't get here till Monday.

How could that be that e5470 stays cool and quiet and the new e5570 runs very hot?

No, at least as of the current BIOS versions. Although if you have that and another drive (e.g. a rotational HDD), it is possible to install the OS onto the SSD. It would just require the boot sector (and possible recovery partition) to be on the rotational drive; a custom install on Windows should handle it for you.

Different fan models? Different BIOS tuning? My E5470 (i7-6820HQ/no dGPU) runs quite hot, although it's nicely quiet even when the fan is going.

My wwan slot is bootable. Windows efi resides in wwan m.2, bootable when 2.5" is completely disabled....hmm. BIOS 1.4.7 a07 I think

Agree that mine runs hot, but fan is quiet. Definitely not putting it in my lap, only in table

There's a reason OEMs started using the term "notebook" instead of "laptop".

paper_wastage, does your E5470 bios boot slow? I have a FastBoot option set to "minimal". It takes about 20 seconds until I see the dell white logo and another 8 seconds until OS starts
I have thinkpad x230 and it starts almost at no time. So, i'm not sure if it's okay for all the contemporary dell notebooks or just my broken setup

I'm on BIOS 1.5.0, and was using legacy boot rather than EFI, and was trying it with no drive in the primary slot. I'll give EFI another shot if I ever repartition the 2nd drive.

I see the same behaviour on my E5570. Try, in the BIOS, deselecting all the devices which you know that you do not have. By default the system is checking for numerous devices such as extra storage drives, which might be connected if the system is docked.
