There is a $350 off outlet coupon on $679 and up 5000 series and I took advantage of it (more like Dell took advantage of me lol).
    i5-6440HQ
8gb ram (will add another 8gb stick)
1080p non touch (AUO according to the parts list)
    Integrated graphics only
    M.2 2280 256gb ssd (Samsung PM871 which looks to be sata 3)
    backlit keyboard
    62whr battery

Looking at the parts list there are some things I don't really know what they mean. For example: Module,Label,Retail,Extreme Performance System,Desktop,Retailstore Micro Center,17500

    Anyone know what that is?

That is indeed a great sale going on right now. That part number seems to be listed for most machines. Not sure what it is but seems like it's something related to branding/inventory control.

I almost went for a similar E5470 as you have listed, but I was unsure of the heat, fan noise, battery life as compared to the dual core (i5-5300U or i7-5600U). Do you know anything about these things on the quad core?

    Thanks.

Yeah, pretty good sale. It was $556 for mine.
No I don't know how different the battery life is between the dual core and quad core. It doesn't matter too much to me bacuse this will be a secondary machine and won't be used much. I will be happy if it gets 4-5 hours with moderate use. I have learned to never trust the battery claims of manufacturers or the reviewers. Their claims are impossible to achieve.

Nice score. Probably one of the best outlet coupons in a while.

My observations on the power consumption of the i5-6440HQ in my E5570 revealed that under light usage the power consumption of the quad core CPU (as reported by HWiNFO) isn't significantly more than for a dual core 15W part. However, I've set it to keep out of turbo mode when running on battery because turbo mode is where there is a disproportionate increase in the power consumption relative to the increase in CPU speed. Here's a graph I made (the % values are the maximum CPU state in the power options)
    Processor power consumption graph.jpg

The CPU is nominally 3.5GHz max, but is only that fast for very short time periods.

Thanks for sharing that John. That is very helpful.

That almost makes me wish for a quad core.

I just picked up an E5470 with the 6440HQ from the Dell outlet, and I'm incredibly impressed at the lack of heat this thing puts out. It runs nowhere near as hot as I expected.

I'm curious what you all have done for RAM upgrades. My E5470 came with a single 8gb stick of DDR4-2133, with 8 chips on it. It looks like Crucial has nothing but stock photos of 4 chip 8gb modules. I'd rather not mix/match RAM...and I'm kind of hesitant to throw 32gb in this thing without going all-out on an m.2 SSD as well :p

Anybody grab a single 8gb stick to have 16gb in Dual Channel? Or is there nothing to worry about?

Also: Who is actually using a 2242 SSD in the WWAN slot? Any trouble? It'd be nice to get a small/slow drive to throw in for VM's.

Good to hear about the heat. I ordered one with the i5-6440HQ too but it doesn't get here until Saturday.
Mine also has 1 stick of 8GB and was thinking to add another and call it a day but the thought that it can have 32GB makes me want 32, because why not? :D
I think it should be ok though. I have mixed RAM modules on different Latitudes before and never experienced any problems.

I picked up the Crucial 2x16gb DDR4-2133 kit. It's working quite well!

32gb of fast DDR4 in a laptop with a 2.6 GHz Skylake Quad core in it? This thing is a beast. Now I want a Samsung 950 Pro to throw in here, but why?! haha
