There is an advantage in having the externally replaceable battery and the thin battery used for the E7440 / E7450 doesn't make a lump in the bag. The alternative is the Dell Power Companion which comes in 4 cell and 6 cell sizes. It's confusing having the capacity expressed as mAh so you have to multiply by the cell voltage (nominally 3.6V) to get about 40 and 60 Watt-hours.

Hi John, an extra slim battery to swap out is a good thing and it weighs about 0.5 lbs

the dell power companion does look pretty cool but you are right; the 12000 mah, not sure what that that really translates into for recharging. but it weights 10 oz. so, thats pretty good.

    thanks again for the info.

Well, 30% off coupon and a lot of E5470s on the outlet = gave up waiting to see if there would be an Iris Pro model.

Rather amusing the details that come out in the itemized list after the order. Possibly the most interesting part is the label "Module,Label,Retail,Extreme Performance System,Desktop,Retailstore Micro Center" Full details in the spoiler space.

Would have been nice to get the fingerprint reader, and to have the WWAN card preinstalled (still need to track one down -- I can't seem to find it on premier!) and need to head over to Crucial to order RAM -- already have my SSD to swap in!... but for the savings off of new, this seems to be pretty good.

The Dell 4G card is the 5811e but if 3G is enough for your needs then the card is the 5570e (not to be confused with the 5570 which is physically different).

If 3G means HSPA+, that would be plenty -- if there is enough of a cost difference to matter. It seems like either one is going to require a call/email to sales, regardless.

Hi Mr. Handy, Good call on the 30% e5470 outlet coupon! I just saw it now too :)

I took advantage of the 35% 7000 series coupon.

    Hi John,

a strange turn of events. Dell messed up my order and cancelled the e5470.

    then i saw a 35% off coupon for e7470 and I ended up ordering a rare e7470 with 1600 x 900 HD+ screen which is what i actually prefer for a 14 inch screen.

    specs include:
    i5-6300u
    16GB ram
    256gb m.2 ssd
    Dell Wireless 1820 802.11AC Dual-Band Wi-Fi + BT 4.1 Wireless Card
    trackpointer

I also got 3 years on site / 3 year accidental damage and a 12,000 mah power companion.

I hope this e7470 with a lower res screen can get some good battery life :)

Typically you get about 70% efficiency when doing external battery->laptop internal battery charging

(Efficiency loss when you have to convert between 11V external battery cell, 19.5V output of external battery, laptop internal 7.6V)

40W capacity will add about 28W to your laptop battery

Not as good if you can just swap a removable battery in the laptop itself

If you aren't looking for HQ quad CPU, or dual drives, then e7470 seems to be a better choice

    HI Paper,

Is the Power Companion 12,000 mah equivalent to 40w capacity? thanks for the info here.

Yes, I'm only looking for i5-6300u CPU and single SSD. The e7470 does have option for 2nd m.2 but i probably go that route.

    thanks again!

Yes, 3G means HSPA+. I found the 5570e on ebay at a very reasonable price. Someone had been pulling them out of Venue tablets.

I just hope that the screen is wide viewing angle. Otherwise, FHD (with good viewing angles) plus display scaling will be much nicer to look at.

    John
