They usually say this for M17x R2: please use BIOS A08 Unlocked; VBIOS 80.04.92.00.02, so perhaps you can try updating the vBIOS of the card in DOS mode.

The 0x5c error when installing windows does indicate some hardware issue: Bug Check 0x5C: HAL_INITIALIZATION_FAILED (Windows Debuggers)

Hopefully flashing the card will help.

 

Waiting to see if it does work indeed in the M6600. Might plan an upgrade myself. Will save me some $$ from upgrading to a new lappy.

For me the 680m didn't work quite well, lots of freezes and random reboots.

Nope, the 680m had all sorts of issues. Random reboots, freezes, optimus either working either not, etc, laptop not booting. Tried all sorts of solutions that were available at that time (sometime around the begining of the year), all except vbios flashing.

So I take it, if you sold the 780m, this project is dead?
