I am hoping for the ability of controling fan speeds; or the function that fans are constantly ON on minimum rpm during idle instead of turning them on/off like a mental. This is the only thing that stops me from buying Dell. I want to upgrade from w520 to 17" station so much, only DELL is my meets my requirements but the damn fans.

Noise? Fan noise? commander, you really need to check out the Precision line of laptops.

I live in one of the hottest countries in the world and I work in a non-air-conditioned room where temperatures are often over 35. The M6600 hardly makes a sound, even when I am rendering HD video.

I sweat more than she does.

Ps. I do understand what you mean about noisy laptops, but that is not the case with the Precision line. Seriously there is nothing better,

M6600 is silent, but m6800 goes to master blaster speed easily.

My solution to that was to use m6600 fan in m6800 which makes machine run cooler and quieter.

It will probably be a month or so after the skylake mobile i7 is released. Dell will need to have time to perform certification/testing etc. For example, if Skylake is released 3rd qtr of 2015 then the next gen Mobile Precision might be released 4th qtr. Is just my guess based on how my current machine (m6500) was released in 4th qtr 2009 while the processor in it was released 3rd qtr of that year.

Well, I don't mind the "noise" or the "lack of noise", I mind turning fan off/on constantly. Personally, I prefer a fan running ON on the lowest setting all the time against the laptop being 100% silent for a 5 minutes and then cool itself for a minute. It drives me nuts.
All I want is to DELL not switching fan off. It is the locked BIOS overwrite problem. Only reason I am still with lenovo, where fancontrol is excellent via 3rd party software.

That is strange, my M6700 is either fans completely off 90% of the time or the fans spinning slowly.

I read many instance people are experiencing that, probably due to different GPU configuration.
