You don't need to install specific drivers for a Blu-ray drive.

I installed a non-Dell-provided BD-RE drive in my M6700, which works, except it can't read BD-ROM discs that use a feature called "bus encryption". The drive is supposed to support it but there is something wonky about it (I bought it off eBay from a user in China), I think perhaps it was not set up to work with the region that I live in, so there is no way for me to view movies that require this encryption feature... which is probably about 10% of the movies that I have tried.

For DVDs you will have to set the DVD region on the drive before you can use it for commercial movies. You can do this in device manager on the "DVD Region" tab after you open details on the device.

Do either of these cover your situation or are you having trouble reading discs that aren't movies as well?

I understood he said that it reads discs, but cannot record any.

Sorry I misunderstood (reading too fast I guess), I took that comment to mean he had purchased a read-only drive.
Anyway, I still don't think an extra driver should be necessary, I've used several BD-RE drives for burning and have never run into this (or even seen a driver available for install).

Well, me neither, but then again I've never had such a problem. A google search revealed some drivers, but these could also be viruses. I don't see any firmware but 1.00.

Perhaps it's just drive firmware incompatibility with some media.

An update...the bios still doesn't recognize the BD-RE drive, device mgr shows it correctly as a Matshita UJ272Q SCSI. Can some of you who added BD/DVD drives see if the bios has "optical drive" after the fixed bay devices=. Not exactly sure why, but now Imgburn recognizes it and I'm able to burn CDs & DVD. Used it to burn the Dell factory recovery disks. Trying BD burn next.

    I am trying to upgrade from a k5100m to a 980m .

What 980m is the card you are running for ? (clevo, alienware)?
Are you able to run the regular geforce drivers from nvidia or is there a inf mod ?

I bought it from a fellow nbr member, it should be a clevo card.

I used Mr. Fox's GeForce 345.20 Desktop Driver Mod for Alienware and Clevo Mobile GPUs and it works fine. Link below.

The regular geforce drivers from nvidia will not install without a modded inf. I did tried to create my own modded inf but it did not work. Just gave me a blank screen.

The link is below if you are interested.

Some had luck using the inf generator from laptopvideo2go but I haven't given that a try yet so I can't comment on it.

    Hi guys, I have a m6800 with 4940mx running at 3.1 ~ 3.9 (I guess) and k5100m

My temps are about 60 ~ 65 chrome surfing and 80 ~ 92 in high loads like the division on full high quality or cinebench

Anyone with same setup to compare with my temps? Idk if its safe to run around 90 even being a MX intel cpu

    thx!!

Hi, I've been a M6800 owner (4940mx and M6100) for over a year now. Since upgrading to windows 10, I found switchable graphics not working properly any more. I've tried uninstalling all display drivers in safe mode via [Guru3D.com]-DDU tool, and installed latest intel and amd (dell) drivers. Now if I right click on the home screen, I only get two AMD graphic properties or switchable graphics option, NO intel graphic options. Switchable graphics is enabled in BIOS, and it's the latest BIOS. If I disable M6100 is device manager, displayport will stop working, two AMD options disappear when right click on home screen and two Intel options (graphic properties) show up.

It appears that system is using AMD as the default graphic card as long as it's not disabled in device manager, regardless of whether switchable graphics is enabled or not in BIOS. It's really frustrating as the gpu fan (left side) is running at full speed because GPU is showing 88C at no load! This only occurs when internet is active (either wifi or Ethernet), as soon as I put it into airplane mode, within a minute GPU temperature will drop below 55C and fan will be running at low speed.

Has anyone happened to share similar experiences?

Mine has 4940mx as well, all four cores are around 50C when idle, about 55C when surfing via firefox & chrome. Highest readings are about the same as yours.
